Serena pulls out of Open Gaz de France PARIS (AP) - Top-seeded Serena Williams withdrew from the Open Gaz de France quarterfinals on Friday because of stomach flu.
Williams, the Australian Open champion, was scheduled to play Dinara Safina of Russia, complained of feeling unwell after her second-round win over Stephanie Cohen-Aloro of France.
Safina, the sister of Australian Open champion Marat Safin, will meet Tatiana Golovin of France in the semifinals.
Golovin advanced after seventh-seeded Silvia Farina Elia of Italy retired with a right shoulder injury after losing the first set 6-0.
No. 4 Nadia Petrova of Russia won 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 against Marion Bartoli of France.
In the last quarterfinal, No. 2 seed Amelie Mauresmo played No. 8 Magdalena Maleeva of Bulgaria.
This week, Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova pulled out of the tournament because of a respiratory illness.

Damn, French tv won't show the semi this year (because of stupid rugby match ), only the final... anyway good luck Dina!!!!!!! You know what? a crazy fan has been stalking Serena during the tournament! he followed her even into the locker room and today during a conference, he entered the press room, and asked a question! yeah! he was there with all the journos and he acted like he was one of them! he asked if she wasn't too mad at him for he entered the locker room (apparently yesterday) and asked her to give him a kiss on the cheek. Serena didn't understand (he didn't ask her in English. i dunnow if he was French or not, but he didn't talk english). So he asked journalists to translate for him, and then ppl were like: who the hell is he? and guys from the security staff came and led him out of the stadium, where they waited for the police to come pick that guy.

OMG She beat Golovin she is in the final. 1-6, 6-4, 7-6(7-3)
she completely blew golovin apart when she found her form. The only way golovin got back was when she made a wonderful shot and dina dropped her head but otherwise supreme. This was my first whole match i have watched Dinara and she is even better than i fought, i have always seen little clips but she is truly amazing.
Probably Amelie next round and dont forget we gave her a running in melbourne who knows she could go one further.
Go dinara go.

Dina won!!!! haha, i was listening to the live comments on the radio while driving, and when they said Tati made a last UE and that Dina won i wanted to put my hands up and scream... but realised i should keep my hands on the wheel ;D They'll show the final here on tv!!! this is so cool that's kinda funny somehow, but scary..thought there were loads of security ppl at a tournament..or at least some.. i know! weird, uhh? i mean entering the press room so easily is weird... but entering the locker room is even more! espcecially for a male fan in a female tournament!

Mauresmo to meet Safina
Dinara Safina will face a hard task on Sunday when she meet Amelie Mauresmo for the final of the Paris indoors Open. The 18-year-old Russian reached her fourth WTA final with a 6-1 4-6 7-6 (7-4) victory over France's teenager Tatiana Golovin.
"It's been an unbelievable week. When I came here, my goal was to qualify for the second round," said Safina, who had twice been beaten by Golovin in her career.
Safina, the younger sister of Australian Open champion Marat Safin , breezed the opening set before a single break by Golovin in the second levelled the match.
After two exchanges of breaks in decider both held serve to play the tie-break which Safina took 7-2.
Later on Saturday, French 2nd seed Amelie Mauresmo struggled one set to defeat Nadia Petrova of Russia. Pushed by the home crowd, Mauresmo struggled to fix her game but she capitalised on her opponent's numerous mistakes (7 double faults in 6 service games) to seal the first set.
4th seeded Petrova seemed to have trouble recovering from the loss of the first set and a simple break at 3-2 allowed Mauresmo to finish in straight set and win the first encounter between the two women.
On Sunday, Dinara Safina will have to significantly rise up her game to prevent Mauresmo from winning for the second time in Paris.

That's gonna be great to watch for you Steph!!!!!!!! As I'm here I'm gonna complain - both Mario and Feli lost in Marseille today!!!!! Arrrggggggggghhhhh But thankfully that means I don't have to pay that much attention to the final tomorrow. And good I knew the results before watching the semis on video.
