Okeydokey
Let me see if I can get this right,
It was in the second set, during the tie break.
Sprem was serving, it was 1 - 1
Her first serve went done the center, it was called
out, it was very close, Venus actually hit it back
and Sprem hit it back and Venus, because it had been
called out did not respond,
Now the serve was out, Sprem only returned the ball
in frustration, because she then served her second
serve and Venus won the point, now the scoreboard
said correctly 2-1 Venus, but the Umpire said
2-2, the girls had started to walk to the correct side
I think, for Sprem to serve again, may have been
Venus as this was a tie break, there was definately
some confusion, the girls seemed confused, but
NOBODY said anything, and they continued.
So you had the scoreboard, you know the Rolex thingy,
saying 2-1 Venus and the umpire saying 2 all.
I was totally oblivious to the mistake, but what the
umpire says is what the go by, it was not until after
they started the next point that the scoreboard changed to agree with the umpire. Of course MaryJO
or whatever her name is, and Cliff were hyper ventilating, and having apoplexy fits.
So the umpire gave Sprem and extra point, its not that
he took away a point for Venus or anything, she got all the points she won, he just gave Sprem a point she did not win, and no one picked it up.
Venus's father was in there, he never picked it up.
They say that the onus is on the players, and as noone said or questioned the point stood.
Venus was in shock I think at the interview because she could not get over that she did not pick it up, she said that sometimes she loses track of the score, and
whilst she was confused she did not think to question.I did not hear what Speam had to say, you
know the americans they only show you the interviews of the american players, with the exception of Federer.
But I will say, Spream had to know, but I don't blame her for not questioning, and in any event without that
extra point she was more than likely going to win the
tie break, as Venus and her father said, that one point did not prevent Venus from winning.
Also, in the first set, Spream had 2 set points and they called one of her shots out when it was clearing in, mac cam show this.
I will also add, Spream played a fantastic game,
if she continues like this, she will definately be someone to watch out for. Now that Myskina has
gone, :-
I am definately backing Sprem.
Whadausay Magada!!!
