I shall always remember the 3rd? time that Guga won RG from match point down. At the end, he drew a heart shape in the clay and lay down on his back inside it. So he will have good memories as well as sadder ones if this is his last year. Vamos Guga!!

Sad Guga to miss Miami Masters Series (AFP) - Former world number one Gustavo Kuerten Tuesday gave up his wild card to the Miami Masters Series tournament, saying his surgically repaired hip is still unstable. "I still dont feel ready to compete at a high level," the popular 29-year-old Brazilian told tournament officials. "I have undergone exams this past week, and my hip still lacks stability. I will spend the upcoming weeks in the US undergoing treatment. My main goal is to play the way I used to and I am confident I will be able to do it." Kuerten, a three-time French Open champion, was involved in an epic final in Miami in 2000, falling to Pete Sampras in four sets in what was to be Sampras's last victory in a non-Grand Slam event. But he has yet to regain the heights since major hip surgery in 2004, and is now ranked outside the top 200 in the world. Kuerten thanked organizers of the Miami tournament, which runs from March 22-April 2, for offering him the opportunity. "But it wouldn't be fair to show up to play in such a great event if I am still not in my best shape," he said.

It would be great if he could find his best tennis again...He and Marat played some great matches... I can't forget that final in Hamburg 2000. It would be nice to see that again!

The Australian Kuerten seeks Open wildcard By Leo Schlink December 13, 2006
THREE-time French Open champion and former world No.1 Gustavo Kuerten has applied for an Australian Open wildcard in a potential complication to Mark Philippoussis's Melbourne Park plans. Once a top-10 fixture, Kuerten has battled chronic hip problems since claiming his 20th career title in 2004.
But the wiry baseliner is determined to restore his reputation as one of the world's finest all rounders, and he wants to contest the Australian Open from January 15-28 despite a world ranking of No.1079.
"I have two options to start the new year," he said.
"I can fly to Australia or warm up to play the Sao Paulo Open and some other Challengers we have here (in South America).
"If I have the opportunity to go to Australia and be with the other guys, train along with higher standard players, it could be a good experience and it may motivate me to play my best tennis."

GUGA IS OFFICIALLY BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D He was granted a wildcard for Vina del Mar next week! The first seed there is Fernando Gonzales, I wonder if he'll really show up... Anyway, let's see if Gustavo is fit enough to play with the big guns
