Andy Murray (GBR) vs Filippo Volandri (ITA) first round match in Rome. Here's hoping the boy's fitness is up to it.

Murray needs win to stay on top
Andy Murray needs to beat top-ranked Italian Filippo Volandri at the Rome Masters on Tuesday to retain his British number one spot. The pressure is on Murray after Greg Rusdeski's first-round win over 12th seed Tommy Robredo on Monday.
Murray became British number one in February but Rusedski can overtake him if he performs better than the teenager in Italy this week.
Tim Henman began his campaign with victory over Italy's Alessio di Mauro.

Ah well. Looks like Greg's number one. Well done to him on his match. Quite an upset.
Andy looked a bit lost out there tonight. Think he was a bit rash in sacking Petchey. No news on a new coach then?

Well, well, well. ;D Just caught up on some of the Hamburg results. Andy beat Monfils 4 and 1. I have to admit though that watching the highlights of the match, Monfils didn't seem to be on court mentally . Some of the forehand shots he was coming away with were pretty weird. Then again, the boy won and that's what counts. James Blake next. That'll be tough. He'd better stay away from his forehand. PS Sorry to see Marat out of the Hamburg tournament. Heads up guys, he's got lots more matches ahead in his career. Don't let yourselves get too down. Still wish I could take him aside and tell him to keep the body language toned down. Why so much angst when you play a bad shot? Before you know it, you've spent 10 minutes beating yourself up about it and then notice you've lost 4 games in a row ...

Hi Iman - I'm not worried about him so much, I just hope that he's not being rash about sacking his coach and going it alone so soon. Impetuosity of youth I guess. It's been so long ... I suppose I did similar things. Yip ... now that I think about it, yip, I did a lot of stupid things when I was younger. ;D Why can't we have a 40 year old brain in a 19 year old head? Jeez, now that I think of the idiotic things I did - or didn't do more to the point - when I was that age, I blush. Well, that's life!! ;D Here's hoping the boy gets a coach soon. I have to say, I still hope it's Brad Gilbert. A bit of fire ... for a few years ... instill some passion in him . Andy still looks like a dour-faced Scot. It's the weather that does it to us. Honest.

Hey Iman - I'd settle for being young and having tennis talent. Sod the money. ;D
PS It's raining again here. Heavily. Well, it's almost summer after all. Bet the sun is splitting the sky tomorrow.

Well, I was wrong about the sun splitting the sky. The rain is hammering down. Managed to fit in 4 hours gardening though ... planted a fernery ... they'll love the rain ... Can't see my chilli peppers flourishing though ... Sigh. Hope it's not like that when I'm at Wimbledon this year! I expect my usual third degree burns! On the tennis news, apparently the young Serbian player, Novak Djokovic (Andy's mate on the tour) is hoping to become a 'British' player. Should boost our Davis Cup chances in the future ... Andy plus somebody else that can play tennis! Not a bad start. ;D

I heard about that too! Is it true?? Because apparently quite a few tennis players get different nationality but remain playing for their 'home' country If it is true (sorry tina and sonja) we are gaining a GREAT player
