At last, a Scottish tennis player in the upper regions of the world rankings! Good to see Andy hold his own at the weekend with Federer in the Thailand Open Final. Ironically, Andy was only there as Henman pulled out with a bad back. Like many Scots, I'll be watching his career with interest - and hoping that he'll do for tennis amongst young kids in Scotland, what Borg achieved in Sweden. Will also be interesting to see how the SLTA handle this as Andy went abroad to Spain to get his training (outwith his mum Judy's input of course when she was the SLTA national coach!) We have a grasscourt tournament - think it's even older than Wimbledon - that's held in Craiglockhart, Edinburgh. In the late 80s, early 90s, we attracted the likes of McEnroe and Connors - Peter Lundgren won it in 1989 (I think - can't remember the date as I'm getting old). With any luck, we might see sponsors taking note and opening up the attractiveness of the championship to top players again. If only we could rely on the weather!

Yes, definitely one to watch.
I'm surprised how fit he appeared in the match against Schricaphan (sorry about the spelling). It's the one area that he's weak on - so obvious at Wimbledon unfortunately, but he knows that more than anyone and he'll work on it. He's pretty determined.
Would be great if he went up against Marat in Wimbledon next year. Preferably by about the semis ... ;D

Life goes on ... but you don't forget. I'm still in a bad mood with Jimmy Connors ... 18 years later. He beat Mikael Pernfors in the 4th round at Wimbledon ... despite him being 6-1 6- 4-1 up. Feels like only yesterday ... Think I need to get a life. ;D

Yes, I have a life. I'm on holiday for a fortnight ... I've got an engineer downstairs installing yet another new engine in my washing machine ... I've got builders outside lifting up a new patio that they laid and doing it all again ... I'm getting phone calls and emails from work asking me to check things and write copy ... Character building. ;D That's why we Scots are said to be well-balanced ... chips on both shoulders. Probably deep fried chips as well ...

Hey maryb i know how you feel, the U.K needs a new hope Tim (Best days have gone) Greg (Still a good player but not going anywhere only old age) As for Andy he has already shown the promise and he his peak is not even due for another 5 years, if he can stay on the right track and be thoroughly supported then the U.K may a GS winner.

Injury puts paid to Murray hopes Latest results Andy Murray had to concede victory to Xavier Malisse after suffering a hamstring injury in their third-round match in the Ethias Trophy in Belgium. The 18-year-old Scot had lost the first set 7-5 to the second seed and home favourite before retiring in order not to do further damage to the problem.
Murray, who has surged up the rankings, has been plagued by fitness problems during his career.
Last week he was runner-up to Roger Federer at the Thailand Open.
"I felt my left hamstring pull and after that I couldn't really move to my backhand well," he said.
"When the ball was high and when it was low I couldn't put any pressure on my leg.
"I got kind of ratty because he started to make a lot of mistakes. At one point I thought, 'if he keeps playing like this, I've got a chance' but then he started to play better and making me run.
"I just thought it was better to stop than to risk hurting myself even more."
Murray's exploits in Bangkok saw him rise to 72 in the world and he was chasing more ranking points at the second-tier Challenger event in Belgium.
He beat Ivo Heuberger 6-4 6-4 in the first round and Gregory Carraz 7-5 6-3 to set up the meeting with Malisse.

Injured again_ Oh dear. I think heäs going to have to take a bit of care with his body as heäs still growing. Might not have been so bad to take a break after Thailand.
PS Just come back from a break in Pitlochry ... to find the patio still ainät finished ... theyäve rearranged slabwork that I put down at the back of the garden )they broke slabs and decided just to lift mine= ... theyäve broken a large ceramic pot ... and the rain is pelting down ... and why is this text coming out with a strange formatting_
Sigh.
Guess Iäll just need to spend the day in front of SKY ... any tennis on_
