Some news from Roger's official site On November 1, 2005 an official Roger Federer fan club was launched in Basel ;D ATP - MESSAGE TO MY FANS Dear Fans I would like to inform you that I feel a lot better. I am extremely glad to be walking again normally and even jogging gently after having been on crutches for two weeks. At first I was really concerned about being fit again for Shanghai. After making some promising progress these last days I am happy to say that I am a lot more positive about my participation at the Masters Cup. I will be hitting balls again these coming days –which is great news since I haven’t been able to play tennis for almost a month now! What I can say today is that I will definitely be travelling to Shanghai. I’ll just enjoy the time there as a spectator in case my injury should still be bothering me then. But in the meantime I will most certainly do all I can to get back into shape to defend my title in Shanghai. The tournament is, after all, one of my most important goals this year and the perfect event to finish a great season. Kind regards Roger ATP.com announced today that Roger has already arrived (well he has to be 1st in everything!!! LOL) in China

You cannot fault this man, but this is one question i asked myself what would have happened if he lost all those matches after AO. In dubai in 2nd round JCF had 2 MP, In final in Rotterdam Ljubo had 2 CP, Nadal 2 game away from winning in Miami and of course his unsuccessful clay court season (-hamburg) He seemed his confidence was knocked, he was not playing as well. It's just one of those what if moments but by far i am privileged to watch the up and coming greatest tennis player ever

An article from the local newspaper here (apologies for any typos): I'm too sexy, says tennis king FedererShanghai:Roger Federer seems pretty comfortable with his new label as one of the sexiest men alive. The world number one was named by People magazine as one of its "International Men of Sexiness" earlier this week and Federer is not about to argue."That's why I put on clothes tonight,"joked Federer at the season-ending Masters on Thursday. "so we can speak normally together and you dont get all over-excited" Wearing a black tracksuit and white baseball cap, the Swiss teased Chinese reporters that his sex appeal even captivated his part-time coach Tony Roche. "He likes to visit the sexiest guy alive once in a while," smiled Federer after beating Argentine Coria to stay on track for a third straight Masters Cup title. "He just doenst come here to hang out with me." Wimbledon and US Open champ federer was named alongside Japanese actor Ken Watanabe of Last Samurai fame among the popular culture magazine's overseas sex symbols. Several tennis players have been similarly recognised by People magazine in the past, including Mark Philippoussis, Pat Rafter, Andy Roddick and James Blake .<WHERES MARAT?!?! > "its a compliment." says Federer.

OFF COURT - ROGER WINS ITWA'S PLAYER AND AMBASSADOR AWARDS
The International Tennis Writers Association (ITWA) has voted Roger its Player of the Year for 2005 and awarded him its annual Ambassador for Tennis Award. It’s the second year in succession that Roger has scooped both of the organisation's annual accolades.
In 2005, he won Wimbledon and the US Open and was runner-up at the Tennis Masters Cup during 2005, which saw him end the season as World No.1 for the third year running. ITWA’s 104 members (from 17 countries) voted for him as their Player of the Year ahead of Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal.
Tennis journalists and broadcasters also recognized Roger's professionalism and hard work with the media and his role in helping the sport reach out to new and existing fans. He beat the likes of Andre Agassi and James Blake to pick up his second ITWA Ambassador for Tennis Award.
“The fans see you out on court and maybe they think ‘He’s a great player’, but I don’t know if they realize how much we are doing off the court in trying to improve the game and the image of the sport, which from my point of view are very, very important,” said Roger.
“Roger embodies professional excellence on and off the court,” said Eleanor Preston, Co-President of ITWA. “His friendliness towards the media and his willing and open attitude to promoting tennis is an example to his peers in how to bring the sport to a wider audience. That, even more than his trophies and titles, could be Roger's most important gift to tennis. We are very, very lucky to have him.”
ITWA voted Kim Clijsters its female Player of the Year and, like Roger, the Belgian also made it a clean sweep by picking up the ITWA Ambassador for Tennis Award.
ITWA was formed five years ago to represent the select group of journalists who travel the globe, week-in and week-out, covering tennis for the written and broadcast media. ITWA includes members from 17 countries and the coverage they provide brings tennis to millions worldwide. ITWA is committed to working with the sport's governing bodies, tournaments, agents and players both to improve the working conditions of tennis journalists and to gain recognition for the media's vital role in the promotion of the sport.

->> - FEDERER FOUNDATION OPENS SOUTH AFRICAN SPORTS CENTER … On Wednesday in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, ROGER FEDERER's parents Lynette and Robbie opened a multipurpose site in the small municipality of Zwide, turning control of the facility over to the local IMBEWU organization. The project was financed in cooperation between the Roger Federer Foundation and his sponsor, Nike. "I am tremendously proud that we have succeeded in making these great sport facilities available to the children and the young people," Federer said. "A great big thanks goes to Nike for the implementation. I am convinced that my sponsor will to do whatever it takes to maintain the site in perfect shape in the years to come so that as many kids as possible will be able to go in for sports and have a lot of fun there for a long time." The multipurpose site contains two tennis courts, a basketball and a netball court as well as a football ground, with court surfaces that were manufactured from recycled Nike shoes. The facility also will serve as a contact point for the municipality - for instance, for campaigns promoting the prevention of HIV and AIDS. The Roger Federer Foundation was established in December 2003. Aside from promoting sports for young people the main goal of the Foundation is the support of impecunious children. Since May 2004 the Roger Federer Foundation has got involved with young people in South Africa. The commitment is expression of the partnership with IMBEWU, a non-governmental South Africa-Swiss organization that campaigns for the improvement of the living conditions of adolescents in the townships near Port Elizabeth.
