I was at the AO and watched a couple of Maria's matches. All the other players have coache's, trainers, boyfriends/girlfriends, family or friends. In Maria's box just her dad and someone who looked like they worked for Nike. I kind of felt sorry for her. It kind of seemed like it would be lonely for her. Has anyone seen her mum? I know after she won Wimbledon it was the big thing that she was trying to phone her, but doesn't she got to the matches? Does she live in the States or is she still in Russia?

I think that she has very beautiful eyes which are expressive..... particularly on the courts her eyes really can tell you if she is annoyed or happy or whatever she may be feeling ....nice photos ...It has been a headline story on our sports news which is fairly late at night.

Davenport and Sharapova Play Snow Tennis at Ski Dubai Dubai, UAE - In a scene more reminiscent of the Winter Olympics than the Dubai Tennis Championships, former world No.1's Lindsay Davenport and Maria Sharapova took time out on Monday from their preparations for the Dubai Duty Free Women’s Open to enjoy a unique "practice session" at Ski Dubai, the world’s first indoor alpine ski resort located in the Mall of the Emirates, one of the largest shoppings malls in the world. Playing in minus two degrees Celsius and surrounded by snowy slopes and chalets, the world Nos. 3 and 4 rallied on a specially-built tennis court at the recently opened Ski Dubai. The court was surrounded by five runs that vary in difficulty, height and steepness, the longest being 400 meters with a height of over 60 meters. Real snow covers the slopes all year round, and fresh snow is created daily to ensure perfect conditions at the resort, which spans 22,500 square meters - the equivalent of three football fields. Ski Dubai is located in the Mall of the Emirates, one of the largest shopping malls in the world. Both players are in Dubai this week to compete in the $1 million Dubai Duty Free Women’s Open, held February 20-25. Davenport is the reigning champion of the Dubai event while Sharapova is making her debut at this event, which has four of the world’s Top Five players competing this week.

Maria Sharapova Visits Dubai Duty Free Russian superstar Maria Sharapova turned more than a few heads when she passed through the award-winning Dubai Duty Free at the Dubai International Airport. Sharapova, who chatted to Dubai Duty Free staff and spent time looking at the gold jewellery, learnt about the operation which recorded annual sales of over Dhs2.1 billion (US$590 million) in 2005, representing a 19% increase over last year for what is the third largest airport retailer in the world in terms of turnover. Sharapova was on her way back to the United States after competing in the Dubai Duty Free Women’s final against Justine Henin-Hardenne. The top seed went down in the decider 7-5 6-2 to Henin-Hardenne who won her third Dubai title. Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free, said: “We are delighted to have Maria Sharapova here for the first time and pleased to see she made it through to the final. We look forward to welcoming her back next year.” Sharapova certainly enjoyed her first time in Dubai. The Russian beauty visited Ski Dubai last week for a slightly chilled practice session with Lindsay Davenport on a specially-made court, played on the slopes at minus three degrees celcius

Sharapova delays debut for Russia Sharapova is preparing for the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells Maria Sharapova will not make her Fed Cup debut for Russia when they launch the defence of their title against Belgium in April. The Florida-based 19-year-old has repeatedly denied she does not want to represent her native country. "It's quite untrue that I don't want to play for Russia," she said. "I have a Russian heart." Sharapova does not want to follow hard-court events in Indian Wells and Miami with clay in Belgium. "My body is just not ready after two tough tournaments to go and play Fed Cup," said Sharapova. "It's my own personal decision, and I'm not going to be influenced by what anyone else does. "I won't be forced into it. My body just isn't ready to go from hard courts to clay courts that quickly." Anastasia Myskina has also pulled out of the tie. "It's too much for me," she said. "This year I want to play for myself. I've played every time they asked me to play again, but it's been too much now." from bbc.co.uk
