Day 4 preview: Ginepri and Roddick last American hope
As Ivan Ljubicic and Thomas Johansson will fight for a place in the quarterfinals and a chance to clinch a spot for Shanghai, n°1 seed Andy Roddick will face Dominik Hrbaty. His compatriot Robby Ginepri will also attempt to reach the last 8, when playing 2004 French Open champion Gaston Gaudio.
Roddick-Hrbaty Andy Roddick will attempt on Thursday to win his seventh consecutive singles match. A winner in Lyon last week, he captured on Wednesday an extremely dangerous duel against his countryman Taylor Dent in three tight sets. Although he didn’t produce his best tennis all the way against Dent, Roddick’s ability to play well when he needed to – he saved 11 break points – should give him some valuable confidence for today’s obstacle. His opponent will be solid Slovakian Dominik Hrbaty, who’s enjoying an exciting end of season, as he will soon lead his country in the Davis Cup final in Bratislava. On Wednesday, Hrbaty had little trouble defeating French lucky loser Jean-René Lisnard. His task should be much tougher in the third round as Roddick defeated him three out of four times so far.
Johansson-Ljubicic Here’s a match which promises to be spectacular. Both Thomas Johansson and Ivan Ljubicic have been showing some inspired tennis lately. Ljubicic captured two events, in Metz and Vienna, and only bowed to Rafael Nadal in the Madrid final ten days ago. As for the Swede, he just captured on Sunday, the ATP event in Saint Petersburg. In addition, both opponents still have a chance of qualifying for the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai. If Ljubicic hits the ball even harder than Johansson, the Swede might be a little quicker around the court. In their only previous meeting of 2005, in Rotterdam last spring, Ljubicic had prevailed in straight sets. Can Johansson get his revenge?
Ginepri-Gaudio Robby Ginepri is still enjoying what has been by far the best season of his career so far. The 23 year-old American has captured the title in Indianapolis this summer, and reached the semis at the US Open, and at the ATP Masters Series in Cincinnati and Madrid, which earned him the 12th seeding here. More at ease on faster surfaces than Gaston Gaudio, the 2004 Roland Garros champion, Ginepri should be considered as the slight favourite under the fast playing conditions of the POPB. Yet, Gaudio who has captured no less than five tournaments this year – all on clay – is not lacking confidence. His straight sets win over Fabrice Santoro on Wednesday proves that he can play some excellent indoor tennis .

Good Berdych won!! BTW, I found his "tennis style" or whatever you call it, similar to Marat´s.... I noticed this some time ago, but watching him playing the final and winning Bercy was like a big sign for me LOL ;D ;D
