PARIS, Oct 26 (Reuters) - World number one Roger Federer and French Open champion Rafael Nadal are among five players who have pulled out next week's Paris Masters, organisers said on Wednesday.
Switzerland's Federer, winner of four 11 titles in 2005 including four Masters Series events, is sidelined with a torn ligament in his right ankle.
Spaniard Nadal, who captured his 11th trophy of the year on Sunday at the Madrid Masters, is nursing a knee injury.
Other high profile absentees include defending champion Marat Safin, with a strained tendon in his knee, Andre Agassi and former French Open winner Carlos Moya.
The sixth-ranked Agassi has opted to miss the event for personal reasons.
Organisers said Lleyton Hewitt's participation also remains in doubt and if the Australian misses the event, Andy Roddick will be the only top six player in the field.
Italians Filippo Volandri and Davide Sanguinetti, Frenchman Gael Monfils, Chili's Nicolas Massu and Andrei Pavel of Romania will replace the absent players in the draw.

At least with Fed and Nadal not being there, it gives somebody else a chance to win a Masters Series event.

This is perfect for Koyla, to win his 1st masters series. Reports are saying Hewitt will miss out due to immanent arrival of little baby. So once again Roddick SHOULD be favourite but i doubt it, this tournie is for anyone

Draw: Let the games begin!
The 2005 BNP Paribas Masters can now get on its way. Indeed at 6:30 pm, this Friday, in the Parisian headquarters of BNP Paribas, Amélie Mauresmo alongside, Ivan “Indoor” Ljubicic, Guillermo “el mago” Coria and French rising star Florent Serra proceeded to perform the draw for the last ATP Masters Series of the year.
The fans of indoor tennis will, once again, be treated to some spectacular tennis at the Palais Omnisport de Paris Bercy (POPB), for the final stop of regular season tennis.
Names such as Andy Roddick former world number one, Gaston Gaudio 2004 French Open champion, Ivan Ljubicic hottest indoor player on the tour and many others will be fighting it off in front of 15 000 frantic fans sitting on the edge of their seat waiting to see who of these champs will raise the the ever so desired “Arbre de Fanti”.
Roddick awaits Grosjean
In the second round already there will be matchups that many tournament directors would love to have as their finals. Andy Roddick, seeded number one will face Sebastien Grosjean former winner in 2001 and actual semifinalist in Lyon. Ljubicic could play James Blake, both players having won tournaments in the past two weeks.
Should the logic of the rankings be respected, Roddick and Ljubicic could face each other in the semifinals and Coria and Gaudio could play their Parisian rematch in the quarterfinals after their unforgettable finals in the 2004 French Open.
The Masters Cup challenge
The Parisian ATP Masters Series will, as usual, hand out the final tickets for the Masters Cup in Shanghai. Five players having already qualified, three more spots will be allocated during this week, which promises to be once again filled with blood, sweat and tears…
