While someone has started this.
When in school we were doing about muslims say ing it was forbidden to drink and smoke. But then again his name does belong to the culture and he does wear that necklace.
So i am unsure about his religion. Maybe he is not a devout muslim..........but then again this is my opinion.
peace

There's been a lot of questions about this in the past 48 hours (I guess it's all the new fans?)
Marat is Muslim: his mother is practicing, but Marat has always emphasised that he is not practicing. As you said, Safinno1, he can't be a practicing Muslim and not fast & pray, and enjoy gambling, alcohol & cigarettes etc etc (which are against Islam) I think that's why he's always made the distinction.
However, someone posted on the website forum here that they heard Marat was recently getting more involved in the Muslim faith; hence the islamic symbol necklace he now wears, and that he was 'listening to the Koran' (don't know exactly what that means)

Possibly the giving up on alcohol is another sign of strenthging his faith into Islam. I think when you say listening to the Qu'ran he may be listening to somebody reciting it or himself reciting it.

Most of my Muslim friends don't smoke and say it's because of their faith And yes, I know what a Koran is ( ) - what I was querying was 'listening to it' - it can mean many things - someone is reading it to him (unlikely I think), or he has it on CD or something, or he is taking the advice from the Koran....

I'm a resident lurker, but for some reason decided to register. As a Muslim I decided to explain a few things or give my opinion on them. The Islam consists of 5 pillars and in order to be a good Muslim, you have to stick to all of them. They are: declaration of faith (there is no god but Allah), establishment of prayer (5 times a day), required expenditure (give to the poor), fasting and a pilgrimage to Mecca. Marat doesn't fast, doesn't pray, he drinks, smokes, has premarital sex , is in a relationship with a non-Muslim girl....he doesn't do much religious. It's his decision and I respect it. He does however show that he is a Muslim. He has an eye for protection on his arm, wears a necklace with a verse of the Koran on it, listens to the koran on cd, mp3 or perhaps Islamic radio. He gives to the poor, is an honest man, respects everybody, has Muslim beliefs (everything happens for a reason, he doesn't look ahead cause he might not be alive in the future). He has the right to live his life the way he wants to and whether he prays, etc. or not, he is a good human being and that counts for something as well. I'm a practising Muslim and there are so many religious things I don't do so don't hold that against Marat.

I forgot to add that I don't know whether Marat listens to the Koran recited in Arab (it can calm you down on a bad day btw) or whether he has an english or russian translation of the book.

Hey guys that's my first post here.
I am a practicing Muslim too. I think how much of your religion you practice is something between you and GOD. That's why I was surprised when I read an interview with Safin where the interviewer asked him if he is practicing Islam or not (Not his business I think). So Although fullfiling the 5 pillars of Islam is very important you can still be a Muslim as long as you have the faith that "God is ONE and Muhammad is his prophet".
Sorry for going out the main subject here but I just wanted to make things clearer.
To Ilhame 1-"Marrying a non-Muslim Girl" is not against Islam. 2-"Eye of protection" has nothing to do with Islam.
To hrina7 Cigarettes are not forbidden in Islam but they are waste of money and health which is forbiddn in Islam. So yes its kinda forbidden.
Is Marat a smoker???

"Muslims in Russia". They are more than 15%. Don't know exactly. oh ok, alright, thanks. yeah, i asked my history today and he mentioned the orthodox russian church, then he said that some are jewish, and some are christian, but some are athiest cuz their former govt or whatever didn't encourage religion...and i asked him about muslim, and he said that he guesses that in some parts, like on the borders perhaps there could be muslims, but it's not common.
