Oh gosh...Nole's confidence is flying high right now like a kite...i hope Marat muster up enough confidence to match that when they do get to play, otherwise, i don't even want to think about it.... Of course, first things first, he's gotta win rnd.1...
and,yarina...nice info on the height/weight...i thought people only grow till age 25 but hey,if it can happen to Marat at age 28...i guess there's hope for some of us still! LOL

hopefully the match against gasquet gave him that confidence. he was serving for the match 6-4, 5-4. playing like that against gasquet, a top 10 player and a good grass court player (got to semis of wimbledon last year).

On a superficial note, also according to the eurosport website, many players have recently grown and/or lost weight. Marat, of course, has done both: 1.95m tall(it used to be 1.93 according to the atp website, as far as I know) now and weighs only 81 kg! Roger also grew a bit, he's now 1.87m (1.85 before) and Novak has reached 1.90 (1.87 before) and 75 kg (down from 80). I wonder if they really measured the guys again or if these are merely mistakes as the female Davydenko player above... Marat's height is 1.95cm now so that's correct. Though LOL at the weight 81 kg..He would be gone with the wind with such a weight ;D

Safin in great shape for SW19 Russian remains wary of tough draw
Marat Safin says he is in great shape ahead of Wimbledon but he admits the draw has been tough on him. The former world number one completed his preparations for the tournament with two exhibitions matches at the Fortis Tennis Classic at Hurlingham, losing to both Tommy Haas and Richard Gasquet. Safin has never been comfortable on the lawns of the All England Club, something he needs to overcome if he is to make any progress next week. The first round draw has paired him with Italian clay-courter Fabio Fognini, but should he progress he faces the daunting prospect of a second round meeting with Novak Djokovic. "I feel great, unfortunately I don't have a good draw but physically I'm perfect," Safin said. "But let's see how it goes because always the first two matches are really tough. Everybody is really nervous and everybody really wants to win so it all depends who reacts to it best." Asked about a potential semi-final meeting with five-time defending champion Roger Federer, he joked: "I would be happy beating Djokovic in the second round! "My position is to go match by match. I haven't been playing really well so every match is an important one. "For me it's tough to play on grass because I don't feel comfortable enough to perform well. My best result here was the quarter-finals in 2001. "It's easier for shorter players to move around on grass than for taller players, because it's really slippery and you can fall down at any moment and you feel that you are running on ice. So it's not really comfortable for taller players. "But it's a great tournament, the facilities are great and everything is improving every year. Unfortunately we can't do anything about the weather. "You can't improve the schedule, it's the same for everybody. You cannot fight against nature, if it rains then you just have to deal with that." wimbledon.sportinglife.com/tennis/wimbledon/story/0,23472,14803_3718652,00.html

Arrived in London yesterday to overcast skies, but it's a lovely sunny day today. The forecast is for good weather for the next few days at least. Good to see that the Big Yin ain't having a mump and seems fairly positive. Putting aside him apearing on a show court in round one, I'll be there to cheer him on. ;D The dry weather will help him with the courts - make the most of it Big Yin. It ain't gonna be slippy, so don't think about your footing. And let your fairy godmother see you come in to the net!

It could be that Wimbledon live stream covers court 11 - I don't remember which courts are broadcast I must admit. There's 8 of them, though, and it wasn't in numerical order. Of course to watch you need to subscribe to their service (and pay 25 $US). For that you can not only watch live but you also get video-on-demand. Link: wimbledon.mediazone.com/other/index.htmlAccording to Sport 1, who covers ALL the courts with a cam on it, these are the courts with cams: Centre Court, Court 1, 2, 3, 13, 14, 17 and 18 So no livestream or camera on court 11! Too bad, i could have watched it cuz it was perfect timing for me ..... Ah, well.... he has to win this one then

I am in the queue ... 5858 in Church Rd ... and the sun is burning the back of my neck already. The queue is already 6 rows deep in the park. Court 11! It will be hellish out there to get near it. Idiotic organisers should have put it on a court with a stand - Amelie is due on it after the Big Yin. I'll no doubt need to sit there for hours to bag my seat. If a camera appears on court, look out for me ... I'll be the human bacon rasher frying in the sun. My skin will at least blend in with the bright pink T-shirt! Have got the camcorder with me, so lots of vids for Denise! Will let you know where/when/if I bag a seat.

Apology due to organisers. There's a new court 11 ... with a stand. Forgot that they are building a new court 2 in the corner and have been changing courts around. More chance of me getting a seat after all!

Nice article on sporting.com where Marat is very positive about Wimbledon - even though he has to meet Nole if he gets through to 2nd round. he must know that maryb will be there today scattering her fairy dust around. One thing that is a slight puzzle towards the end of the article is the following quote
"But it's a great tournament, the facilities are great and everything is improving every year. "
Is it just me? Is that a bit of a turn round - or is our boy just maturing and being very philosophical about things?
Good luck Marat!
