WC for Marat (more or less direct translation from the Spanish website): The organization of the Open Tennis in the Community of Valencia has decided to give the second Wild Card for the main draw of the tournament to Marat Safin. The Russian tennis player was number 1 in the world at 2000 and has been the winner of two Grand Slam tournaments: U.S. Open, at 2000, and Australian Open, at 2005. In his career he accumulated a total of 15 titles. After the wild cards Tommy Robredo and Marat Safin, the tournament has yet to grant the third invitation. Marat seemed to have such a good practice in Valencia before going to Australia for 2008 season and looked really fit after it, so hopefully feeling 'at home' will give him lots of confidence and he'll get some really valuable match practice.
Go for it Marat. Enjoy the game, love playing and the old game and strokes will come back I'm sure. Don't pile too much pressure on yourself - do what you do best. Success will be yours naturally. All your fans support you in whatever you do.

not a great draw! but thats always the risk hopefully he would have learnt from DC and bring that same fighting spirit to valencia! It is home after all, so I am keeping positive I am sure JC knows not to underestimate him! This should be a good match - does anyone know if they are showing it on eurosport???

Normally Eurosport show both tournaments but obviously due to changes in the ATP schedule they both are in the same week now but......
For brit viewers Setanta will be showing the Semi Finals and Finals of the Valencia tournament on Friday/Saturday.- Hopefully Marat will be there for some of us to enjoy.
Marat will most definately play late in the day on Tuesday i think.
It weird how important this week could be in regards to Monte Carlo - if Marat has a really good week his inclusion as a WC would be justified but then if Marat loses early the Monte Carlo organisers may feel Marat needs the matchs so will give him the WC for that reason - i hope LOL
