I really miss Marat Safin who you talk about ....great backhabds down the line ,winner in site out, big aces in the right time....I do miss him so I hope he is comeing back...as soon as he can ......for me with out Marat tennis is tennis wouldn't be nothing .....it's doesn't matter Rafa gonna be world no 1 Novak beat FedEx....I don't care but I always waiting for the great moment for Marat again :)I think he know what he has to do

i was busy writing my thesis and working when marat started to catch all the attention. the first time i watched marat playing was 2004 Hopman while he was ranked 86. I was immediately drawn by his beautiful backhands, clean shots and powerful serves, and of course his sexy look. Since then I became marat's fan and have followed all his ups and downs.
finally in 2006, I decided to go to Cincy to watch him play myself becuz i wanna feel his charisma. at that time, he was ranked 100 something without any coach. He trained every day 12-1pm to 2-3pm and later again at around 5pm. I have to say even he was alone, he was training hard under the horrible scorching sun (around 32-38 C). His shots were even more amazing than I could imagine and his humble attitude off-court totally surprised me. After watching him working hard for 3 days, I anticipated that he would win the 1st round (against Monfils). But he lost quickly. Luckily, he played doubles with Youzhny and got into quarter-finals. He was hurt in a car accident. He had concussion, couldn't kneel known, bruises all over. He still insisted to play the quarter-final. "don't worry, I will definitely play tonite" that's what he told me at where he was waiting for ambulance. I don't see any reason that he gets used to playing even he was badly hurt.
2007, i still went to Cincy to cheer for him. He still hadn't found his game back. But he worked so hard with Gumy ( Sergey was there with him as well). I disagree that he does all these just becuz he is used to it. Nobody would never ever get used to that kind of heat and stress. I chatted with Sergey and he mentioned that it's hard for marat to maintain stable form becuz there were so many variables. I asked Sergey whether Marat is serious about his tennis career. Sergey said of course, otherwise why even bother hiring a coach and all the hassles. Marat still lost in the first round (to Kiefer). I felt so heart-broken when I saw him breaking down at the second set. You could sense that he was trying, yet he seemed to have a hard time to manage his mentality.
I still have high hopes for Marat and want to believe that Marat can come back as long as he regains his confidence. At least, I have to defend for him to those who say Marat doesn't take it seriously or doesn't work hard. Have you personally observed closely what he is doing throughout a tourny? He does get nervous easily. He tends to break down. But it has something to do with his mentality which is the most difficult thing to control, not his carelessness. It's not fair to accuse him with those harsh statements. Yes, I feel disappointed to know he loses in the 1st round again and again. But as long as Marat hangs in here, I want to cheer for him instead of blaming him.
Good luck to Marat for the future tournys and I still hope for the best.
kisses

Some just want to be reassured that everything will be allright, others try to rationalize and find reasons for the events, some don't want to suffer anymore and prefer to move on, etc, etc. It's personal and there is no better way. I just happen to feel like you, as long as he is out there trying I'll support him and I will hope things will get better, for his sake mainly. kisses Alex

With all the reminiscing going on here, I'm not sure whether any of you are still following the events in Indian Wells?! Thought I'd bring you up to date whether you want it or not. ;D Today is "Super Wednesday" - the last 16 men still standing are battling it out and some great matches are on schedule: Lee - Wawrinka Fish - Hewitt Federer - Ljubicic Murray - Haas Tsonga - Nadal (AO revenge for Rafa?) Canas - Djokovic Blake - Gasquet Ferrero - Nalbandian It will be a loooong night

I'm totally in admiration with the tournament (and ofcourse with my broadcasting here as well ) !!!!!! I can't stay up all night cuz there is work to do, but i'm very enjoying the long evenings Was in a total this morning when i saw the latest results..... Blake def. Gasquet .... not expected THAT at all Fishy def. Lleyton ..... ;D Expected win by Novak ofcourse by the easyness Nalbi won over Juanqui but my ultimate match of the tournament (seen so far, ofcourse) is the Rafa - Jo match ... I mean, a big and deep bowdown for Rafa's fighting spirit in the last set, winning it after being down 5-2 is a pretty awsome job!!!! He looks very determined for that nr.1 spot ! Jo was soooooo great as well, it was very hard to see one of the 2 lose the match ... None of the both deserved it!!!! Btw .... anyone knows what's the deal with those written words on Rafa's right hand?? I first was cuz of the thought of a tattoo ...... Thanks davis for this updates!!!!! You have to drink a lot of coffee!!!!! ( for the loooong night!) Coffee's not gonna save you for things like this .... only a very niceholiday break after the tournament will

Re: Rafa's hand. It's not a tattoo but some new Rafa ritual. He writes these three words on the outside of his palm now. I think someone tried to capture it on a screenshot and said one of the words is positivity, the other one is fight and then there is also a third one

Just watched the second-worst match of my life!!!!!!!!!!!! Novak def. Wawrinka 76 62. OMG, they both SUCKED!! I want monetary recompensation for my distress, LOL! Novak better gets his mojo up by Saturday... And the biggest news (if true): Mirka is reportedly pregnant! So the Wimbledon champion 2028 is in the making...
