i saw marat practicing shirtless at nasdaq the day he played doubles with phillipousis but i don't remember seeing a tatoo on both arms so i think he must have gotten it sometime after... DISCLAIMER: i could be wrong  he's a quick change artist though because the haircut he got had to have been right before that match and done super fast because all day he was mr. bushy-headed-goateed pirate boy even up to about an 1/2 hour to an hour before he went on court (he changes shirts a lot too--like a girl! ;D first he was mr. dingy yellow shirt boy, then mr. no shirt boy, then mr. neon green shirt boy, then finally mr. well-groomed addidas shirt boy  ) the thing that struck me most about seeing him in real life was that he is much daintier than he appears in pictures...his ankles are these lovely graceful little things...phillipousis looked like a neanderthal next to him--big and hulking with bushy brows and long and curly side burns sneaking out of his trucker-driver cap--eegggaaddsss!  marat had good socks....and his shoes were nice and slim and not so bulky and made his feet look elegant...i only wish i could have gotten a better look at his hands! (we had binoclars! on that tiny little court!--i can say for certain that phillipousis has very hairy legs and marat's legs looked almost as if they were shaved, they were so smooth! ) ;D |

I think you're right Melusine, the tattoo seems to be post-Miami tournament - maybe he got it done in that little vacation period he had between the end of Miami and arriving in Portugal? I hope he doesn't get anymore... too many tattoos will make him look like a circus freak *lol* ;D Seriously, one tattoo is ok, but where's it gonna end? Obviously his needle phobia is no longer an issue! My personal idea is he's a beautiful guy - he doesn't need to 'decorate' himself especially with something so permanent  Like my mum always says 'What will it be like when you're 50?' I wonder what the significance of these new symbols are? Or were they just the first design he saw in the tattoo parlour? I don't know about you guys, but I hope this isn't another 'rebellion' phase, like a 2004 version of the pierced ear/blond hair/massive jewellery thing........wonder what his mother will say?  |

dainty not nelly! ;D he is tall, but not massive and he doesn't exude bigness when one stands next to him, he just sort of exudes maratness...roddick, for example, is MONSTER HUGE, even though he is shorter than marat, and exudes hugeness. standing next to roddick, i felt like a garden gnome! as for getting more tatoos...sadly, being elderly such as i am...sigh... i am way past any fleeting youthful attraction that tatoos used to have for me BUT if the tatoos are beautiful--and some can be works of art--tatoo away silly boy, however if they are ugly that's a horse of a different color...why do beautiful straight boys always feel the urge to uglify themselves? never fails! must be all of those "queen of tatars" taunts ;D |

Noooooohw... I dont like tatoos either.. some can be okay.. but when you compare a body like that with nice tatoos to that body without tatoos... i prefer the cleaner version!! Yeah ruth indeed, i hope it's not one of this rebellion phases.. I mean.. you can leave you earring out.. colour you hair back to normal.. and put away ugly big jewelry.... but a tatoo is like forever hmmz... he must do whatever he wants.. but I cant really say I like it.... wonder what his mom says: LOL! ;D ;)Caroline |

yeah im agreeing wit u on tattoos, i can't imagine doin sumat that would b on my skin 4 life, i mean u gotta b pretty sure that u like the picture u get haven't u ;D

I actually like tattoos, but of course it depends on the drawing. I like the first one, but this eye thing is just weird.... Maybe it has something to do with those superstitious stuff, there is a medallion with a eye on it that is against jelousy or something like that... I know the name in portuguese but not in english lol, maybe it has something to do with that! Since the other one is the chinese sign...
