I am sorry but I just have to dip in here
There must have been different feeds of that closing ceremony or people were hearing and seeing what they wanted to see, or hear

I just replayed my tape, when Marat was going to serve for the match the camera went to Dasha and she was nervous, she said Oh My God, she was focused,

When he won Peter was next to Walt and Gerard and another man in front of them, Gerard and the other guy stood, faced Peter and Walt and they all embraced, Dasha was next to Walt, I could see Peter embrasing Walt and the other guys and at the same time lean towards Dasha, she was smiling all over and at the time looked as if she was looking to the court to Marat, and she was clapping, she then turned towards Peter, to me it looked like Peter was leaning towards her, she turned and leaned towards him and Walt and the other guys, and then as the camera panned away to Marat it looked like the men were opening to include her in the embrace.

As for the speech, this is what Marat said after Hewitt had thanked his parents coach and gf, and did his bit

Marat congratulated Lleyton on his past / todate achievements and then he said that Lleyton could not have achieved anything with out the group and he said well done to the coach, parents, girlfriend, everybody,
the crowd burst in to laughter, clapped and Lleytons group also laughed and clapped,

Marat then pausedl and went right into thanking the sponsors

There is no where I heard him saying that Llyetons gf was an inspiration or that she was a beautiful blond, maybe he said that to Lleyton separately, and ESPN just did not pick that part up, dunno?

When he congratulated his group he thankedl his friends his coach and his girlfriend in that order and as far as I am concered I think Dasha looked chuffed that she was mentioned, she does not have to break out in a big old smile to show that she was moved by Marat mentioning her as his girlfriend, she was moved and sincerely so, and I might add proudly too.
God how lucky can one get?? to have Marat acknowledge that you are his girlfriend in front of millions of people!!

Wow, there's certainly been a variety of opinion, perception and local transmissions of this one ceremony

I'm sure I heard Marat say something about 'being an inspiration' during his thank you to Lleyton's box, but as I said, the crowd and the commentators were not that quiet, so I'm not sure what exactly was said or who it was addressed to.

Just to add fuel to the fire, another friend just phoned and mentioned that when Marat & Lleyton were at the net, (during the ceremony) they were glancing up at Lleyton's box and it sounded like Marat was commenting on his girlfriend and asking about her.... anybody else hear this? I didn't, although I saw them chatting about stuff and looking up, and Marat asked him something and Lleyton grinned. But I can't lip read or anything *rotfl* Maybe that's what my S. American friend was referring to?

Okay from the feed I got. Dasha did look a litle in different at the end but as you say that could just be her. It kind of looked like Marat was put a little bit on the spot after Lleyton thanked his box in the way he did, it seemed Marat had to do they same. May be he was a little embarrassed, we know Marat is very private and doesn't like to give too much away in that department. It semed more in gesture than anything else. I don't think Dasha would have got mentioned if Lleyton hadn't mentioned his girlfriend.

But that's not to say he doesn't care about her, let's just see how many more tournements she turns up at.

wow Marcela, are you psychic?! That's an almost word-for-word opinion one of my friends just emailed me I must admit, I agreed with her (and therefore you) that if Marat had made his speech first, I wonder whether any references would have been made... She also said Marat looked 'embarrassed' about the whole thing - I didn't particularly notice that, but lots of people have mentioned they felt he was awkward about having to make a similar speech to Hewitt. Like you, I'm just going to wait and see what happens next
But it's been fascinating to hear all the different perceptions and opinions, all the different live feeds from around the world, as emails etc have filtered in during the day, not just about Dasha, but about the match and Marat in general -after all, it's his day!

Offering support to their emotional boyfriends from the friends seats will be Hewitt's girlfriend, Australian television soap opera actress Bec Cartwright (his new love interest after the highly public break-up with Kim Clijsters last fall), and Dasha Zhukova, who re-united with Safin last week after a split. She made it to Melbourne just in time for his dramatic win over Federer on his 25th birthday.

"re-united' Very well. Sound very good for them both. I wasn't a fan of Dasha before but now I am. She seems nice and I very much doubt that Marat would have re-united with her if she wasn't ... erm.. good with him. he wouldn't have re-united if the relationship wasn't special.

I totally agree with vassily.......i too wish marat and dasha all the best, though i would like to add again that i am very very jealous of dasha. i hope she knows what a special guy she has in her life and that they are both happy.
