it's really hard to tell if dasha's THE ONE... cos we don't know them that well you know.
but..we can most certainly say that marat's nuts about her. judging by what chirine's been saying and how he's talked about her a couple of times in interviews already.
never heard him talk so much abt silvia.

I agree with Jiat it's hard to say whether or not she's the one. No one of us knows her, or knows how they get along, if she makes him happy then I'm happy for him and I hope that she is THE one, but he's only 24, that's very young to stumble upon THE one, but it could happen. I have my doubts on her being the right one, but as I said earlier I'm not in the position to judge that.

Like you guys said, only Marat knows if she's the one and we don't know her or Marat personally, so any opinion is only based on what is reported by journalists or fans or Marat/Dasha themselves. sorry Jiat, I have to disagree - he's only made one reference to her and that was a one sentence remark in a Russian interview this year. Dasha has just made far more public appearences than Silvia, so it's easy to think that Marat has made a 'bigger deal' of her, but in reality he said a lot more about Silvia during their relationship. There again, he was with Silvia for a lot longer, so he had time to make more remarks! ;D One interesting point someone mentioned to me, was that during the 'Silvia era' Marat seemed to thank her personally during speeches and when he won Toronto, he made a point of giving her a big kiss in front of the stadium.... wonder if Marat will do the same for Dasha when he wins RG this year? (notice I say when ) Another interesting point >> I got an email from a French fan saying the French commentators had been singling Dasha out for criticisim during Monaco (apparently, they were laughing at her everytime she was shown, because she was applauding Marat's mistakes ( : and during crucial points, when eveyone was totally focussed in suspense, she was playing with her handbag...... ) I don't get French commentary (obv!) so was anyone else aware of this? I thought it was weird for commentators to make remarks about a players girlfriend...

wonder if Marat will do the same for Dasha when he wins RG this year? (notice I say when ) of course we noticed that! ;D About french commentators, the tournament was aired on the cable, which i don't have so i can't tell you about that. But the semifinal was aired on public tv channel and the commentators have been the same for years, they're very respectful of the players' life. They did not say anything wrong about Dasha, they just introduced her as Marat's girlfriend. The camera showed her several times when she was applauding...but after winning points of Marat. And when Marat had problems they showed her too and she wasn't applauding, she just looked anxious (and so did Walt). Everything i can say is that on public channel they are always talking with respect, and they like Marat i think (they often say he's talented, funny outside the court... ) and he has very good relationships with french players (with Escudé especially as you've all noticed... ). During RG Guy Forget acts as a commentator sometimes and he always say nice things about Marat. Everytime i watched a match on the cable (in one of my friends' home) they weren't that nice. Some were just neutral, some didn't talk with respect (about all the players i think). Don't pay attention, my opinion is that they're not worthy of.

Hi everyone, hope you all had a good weekend I have to agree with Damita in her last post about the commentators ect. A friend of mine who saw the semifinal match said what Damita said, Dasha applauded when he did well, and was really concerned when he was not. The only remake my friend said was that the english commentator Barrett (or something like that ...so forgive me is the name is spelt wrong) referred to her as Marat's girlfriend and then said something about maybe ( and I said maybe) the future Mrs Safin or Safina.......tbe he did say he was only anticipating or something like that, not that he was giving offical news or anything YIKES There is something to this effect also on the safinator board...one of the posts.

Poor girl.... that description makes her sound like a deformed hobbit! Even I'm feeling sorry for her ;D Marat's taste isn't that bad! well I don't know about deformed hobbit but, there were some links posted on the safinator MB of some articles with pics of Marat, and this one had pics of his box too. in this pic she looks like the angry dwarf from snowwhite, I think he's called grumpy in english. alltennis.boxmail.biz/cgi-bin/guide.pl?action=article&id_razdel=50443&id_article=67980-xxx-jes me

I watched all of his matches, except for the Mirnyi match of what I saw only the very end (I was too scared to watch it before ;D) and the Russian commentators said nothing bad about Dasha of course (also just that she is his gf) and I didn't notice her doing anything unappropriate, and yeah, as Damita and Teresa said she acted adequately during the QF and SF (or against Arthurs) when they showed her. She seems to be getting used to the cameras and attention.

OK, thanks for the comments re:French commentators I just wanted to defend the person who emailed me their concerns, because they are totally neutral on Dasha (ie, they weren't trying to badmouth her to me) and they've been a dedicated, reliable Marat fan for many years - that's why I asked you guys because I know this person isn't lying - they just must get a different broadcast or something? Because what was being said was quite mean and the fan was a little worried by it Anyway! I'm hearing that a lot too I think Dasha has graduated now.....? At the time of their relationship, Silvia was studying to be a PE (PT) teacher in Pamplona, Spain. She was going to be a pro tennis player like her sister Cristina, but she got a knee injury and couldn't start her career, so she went into teaching instead

Well, Ruth, the French cable might have had their own feed, don't know. For them it may be bigger event? The Russian had the general feed and the commentators weren't even in Monte Carlo.

Because what was being said was quite mean and the fan was a little worried by it I guess they were watching the cable (all matches were on the french cable except for the semi-final) and i'm not surprised of what this person told you Ruth. As i said before, on the rare times i saw a match on cable those commentators did not sound like really nice persons to me. So i can understand that this Marat fan was worried, i would have been too (it's sad that journalists laugh at a player's gf or wife... and not professional at all). I hope Dasha will never hear of that story
