Marat lost to Robredo, 6-4, 6-7,4-6,0-6 had he taken the tiebreaker, maybe things would've been different. Didn't get to see the match, but statistics is pretty decent except the 4th set. sudden drop of 1st serve percentage and lots of UE. (i hope there's no injury......) I think he still hasn't totally changed his habit of footwork to protect his knee, hence causing lots of forehand errors. But that's just my perception. Too bad, kicking off with a good start yet bageled in the last set. My livestream only showed the last point.....Marat looked not happy

Maaaan ... Zolazk, if there was any possible way of accompanying you the USO for a spot of Marat-appreciation then whole forum be there LMAO! ;D ;D So, in your role as TGFR's most privileded current member, we are relying on you for piccies, vids and a generally a very tasty account of all 6'4" Russian Tatar! Have a FABULOUS time!! Well, I am packing my bags as I surf the web for the last time tonight. I can't believe I actually feel a little "stressed" over...."can I get some good pictures, will I stick my thumb in front of the lense, will I forget to turn the camera on, etc." When I purchased my ticket for Arthur Ashe for Monday evening session, I got one free. Back then I thought, yay...I'll take someone who is more camera proficient than me. Unfortunately, were I live, there are NO tennis fans amongst me. I didn't want the ticket to go to waste, so I had been telling brothers & sisters, "hey, why not spend a nice evening in NY...see the sights (as in "exotic tennis players" ;D) and enjoy the fresh air." As luck wold have it, my brother was considering going (he is a tennis fan,) but he can no longer take the following day off from work. So, now I will have an empty seat next to me, AND for whatever reason, I had been sent two extra passes to the US Open Club. If there is anyone out there in the NY Tri-State area, who can make it, please feel free to PM me. Even though it was free, I hate to see it go to waste. Perhaps it is not too late to arrange for someone to use it. I will be "borrowing" time on my sister's computer during my stay in NJ...so I will be checking in here (and my e-mail,) when I can, between Sunday morning, and Monday. At any rate, I will try my best to get good pictures, juicy details, etc. My luck...this year I have the good camera but, will probably end up with no good vantage points. Last year, I not only stood next to Marat & Gumy numerous times (seemed like no one noticed them...,) but, I was one of the first persons to get a good spot at the practice courts...I was too mezmerized to take pictures...I only took one of Dinara (the very first pro match I saw,) and two of Juan Carlos..... Wish me luck!! I'll need it. LOL! TennisMaiden - ooh you lucky lady, hope you have a wonderfully exhilerating and stimulating time drooling over our boy! Shout a couple of 'Davai's' from the rest of us! ;D Barb X

Tennis-Open-Former champion Safin falls to Robredo NEW YORK, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Former champion Marat Safin traded booming groundstrokes with Tommy Robredo for three sets before fading to a 4-6 7-6 6-4 6-0 defeat by the 15th-seeded Spaniard on Friday in the second round of the U.S. Open. "Sometimes you have a good day, sometimes you have a bad day," the 2000 champion said. "Today I was struggling." Twice the Louis Armstrong Stadium match was interrupted in the second set by rain and Safin squandered opportunities to seize the advantage. Leading 3-2 in the second-set tiebreaker he lost five of the last six points as 15th-seed Robredo won it 7-4 to level the match. "If I would have won the second set, I should have won the match probably," said the former world number one who also triumphed at the 2005 Australian Open before tumbling down the rankings to his current number 44. Safin, 28, battled the Spaniard on serve in the third set before errors began to seep into his game and Robredo broke him in the 10th game for a two sets to one lead. That seemed to take the life out of Safin, who went down meekly in a 24-minute fourth set. "The rain was going on and off and I couldn't get into the game. I missed a few points in the tiebreak," he said. "The third set was very close and the fourth set I lost it completely. It just slipped away and that's it," said the fiery Russian, who in moments of frustration slammed his racket to the ground and smashed balls against the back curtain. "Too much frustration in the second and third set." Safin failed to successfully follow up his spirited run at Wimbledon, where he reached the semi-finals before falling to Roger Federer. "One good result throughout the year, I don't think you're hoping for something bigger," Safin said about not carrying any expectations into Flushing Meadows. Instead, Safin found himself pushed around the court by the pin-point topspin forehands and cut backhands from Robredo, who advanced to a third-round match against 19th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France. The demoralised Russian said he would not stick around in New York to cheer for his sister Dinara Safina, who could claim the world number one ranking with an Open triumph.
"No I'm going home. I've had enough already," said Safin. "I've been here for too long. I need to go home."

Hi guys! So, he lost....but at least I had the chance to see him live!!! God, he looked absolutely gorgeous!!! I had the best seat ever! In a lodge, right in the front! Maybe you saw me on tv...I was the girl with the pink t-shirt in the front row cheering for Marat!!hehe Anyways, I have millions of photos from the game but unfortunately, I didn't bring the USB cable with me and I can't upload them...give me some days and I will when I get back home! Goodnight for now! I hope he won't leave NYC tomorrow and come for one more practice in the courts! I'll be there, waiting, with my camera ready to take tones of pictures!!!
