Does anyone know if he's playing St Petersburg - I was assuming he was but there's no confirmation of it. The schedule on his official website says "pending" for St. Petersburg - maybe he applied for a WC and is waiting for the reply.

Re: St. Petersburg. Yes, he did indeed apply for a WC, so hopefully he'll get it

Well done, Nalby, knocked off Nole in straight sets !!!!! Seeing you reaching final is inspirational !! The first practice session I saw in Cincy is you and Marat. You guys seemed to have a good time and looked happy. You two were chatting and laughing, in great spirits. safin-faniac.blogspot.com/search/label/happily%20training%20with%20nalbyYet, results for you both in that tourny were not impressive at all. You haven't had significant results for a while. But still keep fighting. So happy to see you get into the final again. Vamos, Nalby! AND VAMOS MARAT ! It's never too late or too old.

Yes!! Nalby did it !!
He won Madrid Masters by beating Roger in the final. That says alot. It's well known that he's been struggling with his game. Yet best time will come and hard work will be eventually paid off.
Congrats, David !!!!! You are a great fighter. Hang in there. (and maybe practice with Marat again if Marat goes to Argentina !) I am sure Marat is happy for you as well.

Congrats David!! Really well done and again the prove that no matter how many lows you can pass, there is always the hope things will get better. I didn't see the final but I saw the SF against Nole and not taking anything away from Nole, it's great to see David come back. Muy bien!

I supported Roger all the way too, but I cannot not admit the fact that David played better and had a terrific week. So the win is quite well deserved

Interviews from both players:
Nalbandian (Watch free on ATP Masters Series TV): "I think I played very well throughout the match. It's true that in the first set I had a bit of bad luck in the important moments or failed to return some balls and he took advantage of it well. It was a 6-1 kind of fast but I felt that I was playing well. From that moment on, everything started to get better. I think I managed to put him under pressure.
"I think my only problem this year were my injuries at the beginning of the season, in Australia, and then during the clay season; until Roland Garros I wasn't well physically. I had a few injuries that wouldn't let me train hard or be ready to face the best players of the world. After Roland Garros, after Wimbledon I was able to start working hard, to spend more hours in the court and the gym. We had been working hard and it was bound to give its results any moment. And, well, you saw it this week.
"[The title] is really important because of the moment it's taken place in. I think it will come in handy to have a good start for next year. It was one of the goals we had set up for this indoors season."
Federer (Watch free on ATP Masters Series TV): "He came back strong, played really well. In the end I think he was a better player all in all.
"I thought I was more aggressive in the first set and he was more aggressive in the next two sets. I was really struggling to play aggressive. After that first set for some reason he played more tough, more long, never missed that many balls.
"I don't get surprised anymore by my opponents. If he's better, he's better, like today. I have to accept it because I tried very hard. I was trying in some ways, when I was younger, but never as hard as I do it today because then I thought maybe the talent would make the difference, not the fight. Today I tried to fight but it wasn't enough. I would have had to play better to win."

What a shocker, but well done Nalby. Maestro, gracious in defeat as ever ... Wonder if he'll be quite so gracious when the Big Yin knocks him off his perch next year at Wimbles? LMAO. ;D
