if he didn't have this willpower, he'd be out of top 10 for sure... It would be pretty cool if willpower alone could bring a player to the No. 3 position in the rankings...

Nikolay keeps on rollin': 63 63 64 .... only man still to have not dropped a set as a side note -- his press conference was fun .... he was loose, smiling, laughing a little, animated, generally in a good mood (there were a couple requisite Sopot questions , but other than that, it stayed light) .... and I'm glad they set a date to talk to him about stuff after this and DC -- I think it lifted a weight off, allowed him to focus on the tourney, and he's been doing awesome

[glow=red,2,300]Russian women glide into the semis[/glow]NEW YORK -- A Russian woman will be in the U.S. Open semifinals for the fourth consecutive year -- two of them, in fact, as No. 4 Svetlana Kuznetsova and No. 6 Anna Chakvetadze made quick work of their opponents Wednesday and will face each other Friday. [glow=red,2,300]No other country can claim that distinction[/glow][/font Svetlana Kuznetsova has faced a special type of pressure at this year's United States Open. She knows that her side of the draw has not had many of the game's top players, including Justine Henin, Jelena Jankovic, Ana Ivanovic and the Williams sisters. And after a third-round upset, it did not have Maria Sharapova, either.
But Kuznetsova, the fourth-seeded Russian who has sometimes battled her nerves since winning the 2004 Open, did not waver. In dominating fashion Wednesday, she defeated unseeded Agnes Szavay of Hungary, 6-4, 6-1, to advance to the semifinals, where she will play a fellow Russian, Anna Chakvetadze, who defeated Shahar Peer of Israel in an earlier match.
Kuznetsova won 61 points to Szavay's 43 in a match that ran one hour and seven minutes. It did not figure to be so easy coming in: Kuznetsova struggled with Szavay in the final of the Pilot Pen Championship last month in New Haven. Szavay won the first set, 6-4, before falling behind by 0-3 in the second and retiring with back spasms.
Kuznetsova learned from that match.
"It helped me to play her, because I knew her game," she said on court after the ma This time, Szavay was broken in her first service game and could never recover. Kuznetsova broke her again to go up by 5-1 with a forehand winner. She closed out the first set in 26 minutes.
Kuznetsova also broke Szavay in the first game of the second set and did not face a break point the rest of the way.
Earlier, as Chakvetadze and Peer took the court for their quarterfinal, there were plenty of empty seats at Ashe Stadium. And those fans in attendance seemed to be experiencing a post-late-night Rafael Nadal upset hangover.
They did not get another upset. Chakvetadze, the sixth-seed, advanced to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over the No. 18 Peer.
Both players were going for their first Grand Slam semifinal, but Chakvetadze used her superior angles to throw off Peer's power baseline game in the one-hour, 22-minute match
Peer woke the crowd up with a break to go up in the first set, 3-2. She held at love before giving the break back.
The players exchanged groundstrokes and held serves until Peer served at 4-5. She fell behind, 15-40, when she hit a backhand long. She challenged the call, but the replay showed it was out. Peer hit a weak forehand into the net to lose the set.
The late-arriving crowd was solidly behind Peer, but fans were silenced when she squandered a game after earning a break in the first game of the second set. She would not hold her serve in the set.
Chakvetadze closed it out with a forehand winner that clipped the sideline. Peer challenged the call, but the replay showed it was good. It was the second call that was challenged on match point in recent days. James Blake unsuccessfully challenged an ace by Tommy Haas in their fourth-round match on Monday.
Venus Williams will play Jelena Jankovic in another quarterfinal tonight. The winner will face Justine Henin, who defeated Serena Williams last night. ***************************************************** Davai Svet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! C'om my fellow ST Petersburg gal!!!!!!!

I don't really mind who's going to win women's title.. I just hope it's someone else than Henin.. just like I hope that Federer won't win this one. Not that I don't like them.. I'd just like to see someone else win!!
