Wait it gets worse... Tarpischev announced that Korolev won't play due to injury... I don't think there's actually any point in going now So who is going to play apart from marat??

It´s not rare what is happening. After all the stress and energy winning a DC title means very few times the champions defends the title. The players already reached their goal and they want to spend some time taking care of their personal careers and bodies.

With all my respect I must say that going to Chile, where the court will be clay, without the best ranked players and with the crowd against them, it is completely absurd Marat playing there, plus, he is at the risk of suffering a possible injury perhaps?... totally absurd even though Marat might consider it as warming matches for the next tournaments on HARDCOURT !!! ------------------------------------------------------ Davydenko, Youzhny to rest as Cup defense beginsReutersMOSCOW -- Davis Cup champion Russia will be missing at least two key players when they begin the defense of its title against Chile in next month's World Group first round. Russia captain Shamil Tarpishchev said he would give Nikolay Davydenko and Mikhail Youzhny a rest for the Feb. 9-11 tie on clay in the Chilean city of La Serena. The third-ranked Davydenko, who has played more matches than anyone on the men's tour for the last two years, has reached the Australian Open quarterfinals where he will take on German Tommy Haas. The 25th-ranked Youzhny, who suffered a serious ankle injury three months ago, was knocked out by top-ranked Roger Federer in the third round at Melbourne Park. "We've planned to use Marat Safin, Dmitry Tursunov, Igor Andreev and Evgeny Korolev for this tie, but two of these guys, Tursunov and Korolev, suffered injuries," Tarpishchev was quoted as saying by the Russian media on Monday. "Now, we have serious problems as far as picking the team."Safin, the world's former No. 1 player who clinched Russia their second Davis Cup title in last month's final against Argentina, is expected to lead the team against the South Americans. "It will be really tough for us against Chile if we don't get both Tursunov and Korolev back in the squad," Tarpishchev said. sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/news/story?id=2738954

I agree with you!!! Russia has no chance against Chile! So Marat shouldn't go there!!! His personal career is more important, I think

So Basically the team most likely is Marat Safin, Igor Andreev, Igor Kunitsyn and either Teimurz Gabashvilli or Yuri Schukin.
I think that all live rubbers will involve Marat and Andreev!
Although it sounds bad on paper i think we may have to rely on Marat beating Gonzo for us to have a chance - but this is DC and we never know!

All the recent news about DC make me worry alot! After finishing Chile DC, the following day Marat will have to play San Jose on Feb 12, which means he won't have time preparing for that tourny and will be darn tired due to fatigue and long flying.........
DAVAI MARAT!!!!!

No, it really doesn't...... Lets all hope and pray that the Russians ALL have the best form in that weekend, and that some of the Chilene players don't !
