FROM DAVIS CUP OFFICAL WEBSITE Safin gets Russia's defence off to great start Marat Safin, cruised to a 63 62 62 victory over Nicolas Massu. to get Russia's Davis Cup title defence off to the best possible start in Chile.
Massu had never previously lost a Davis Cup singles rubber in Chile but Safin, whose last Davis Cup rubber saw him seal Russia's triumph in Moscow last year, was in great form, converting six of seven break point opportunities and producing just ten unforced errors.
Australian Open runner-up Fernando Gonzalez bids to get Chile's bid back on track when he takes on Igor Andreev in the second singles rubber.
More soon...

Complimenti dorogoy Sounds like Marat played a clean match today. That's what i like to hear. Hopefully now Igor will play without too much pressure... Btw..maybe someone can confirm or deny this for me...but isn't Igor still the last person to have beaten Nadal on clay?? In Valencia...?

In general, the last time he lost on clay was during DC in Belarus 05. But If you strictly refer to countable tournaments, yes, it was Igor who has beaten him for the last time in Valencia. Don't remind that now, I don't wanna change my mind on Igor's today match please
