yes...I see it this way - the girly, slightly petulant throwing it flat routine ,as in both the singles and particularly in the doubles today- when he tried to flick it back up with his foot and ended up nearly nutmeg-ing himself - well, that's vaguely pissed off with himself but with no real focus, so he slaps it down and the crowd squeal - but we all know that when he REALLY wants to BREAK IT, baby - he hits something and the crowd go wild!!!!

Well let Marat off lightly since it has been a long 2 weeks & he has got a couple of victorys under his belt - so not all bad.
Rest up and see you in vegas baby
DAVAI MARAT!!!
German sixth seed Benjamin Becker eased into the semi-finals on the San Jose Open with a 6-4 6-3 victory over a listless Marat Safin of Russia.
The fourth-seeded Safin played well short of his best and world number 49 Becker took full advantage to set up a match against another giant-killer, Ivo Karlovic, who had earlier dispatched fifth seeded American Mardy Fish 7-6 6-4.
"I think I was a little too slow today," former world number one Safin said. "Maybe I had a bit of a problem with the timing because I played all my matches in the evening.
"Maybe it was a bit too early for me. I couldn't get into the match quickly enough."
Safin, the world number 24, won a five-set battle with Becker at the Australian Open last month, but made a stack of unforced errors in their latest meeting and could not even force a break point.
The German broke once to win the first set and again in the fourth game of the second, before serving out to love to reach his third ATP Tour semi-final and second this month.
"I think I played pretty well and I think he made a few more mistakes than he usually does," Becker said.
"I just tried to him play a lot, not going for too much, especially on his serve and it worked out."

Let´s see how he adapts, this could be a "transitional" tournaments. I just hope he picks up his level before Indian Wells. That would be cool.

We will definately see a different Marat next up - it was no surprise to read his comments- he confirmed what we saw - namely, the poor lamb really ought to have been tucked up in bed snoring his head off and not having to drag himself around at work - we all have days that we wish would just go away - but when you are Marat Safin, hiding away somewhere at work with a triple shot latte and grizzling to yourself is not really an option - imagine!! an arena full of hundreds of people all watching your every move and drawing conclusions from every expression!!! no wonder he looked miserable!! there are clearly good reasons why he had a bad day at the office - we should not underestimate the impact of the long flight from Santiago coupled with the change of times from night to middle of the day for that game - my brother flies for a major airline and he has for several years and he says that you never adapt to jet lag- and that in fact, its the relatively small times changes - of a couple of hours, that can really play havoc with your bio-rhythms - so I don;t think we should be too concerned - importantly, no mention of the knee as a problem - so, a few good nights sleep and some vitamin B will have our boy back to his best for his next outing - Go Marat!!!
