from atptennis.com
Former World No. 1 Marat Safin, who has not won a title since beating Hewitt in the Australian Open final in January 2005, won his first round-robin match, defeating Austrian Stefan Koubek 7-5, 6-2. The third-seeded Russian did not face a break point and had a better winning percentage on his second serve (83%) than on his first serve (74%).
Safin is playing just his third tournament of the year. Two weeks ago he reached the San Jose quarterfinals, losing in straight sets to Benjamin Becker.

Hi everyone - great to start off with a comfortable win - am new recruit to the livescoreboard at the tourny website - although it is a horrible way to 'see' a match!!!! kept popping back to the screen while getting ready for work - had to leave just as the first set break occured so didn't feel too bad logging off at 7-5!! Great way to start a day at work by logging on and finding the positive result- Good onya Marat!!!The photos are evidence of a much more committed player than last time out- looks like he's got plenty of petrol in his tank - Here's hoping!!

One thing that scares me about the cold is that his knee doesn't like it so I hope it won't be that bad, temperaturewise.
