Wow, it was a shock to read that Marat was in the team and the number player at that. I think regardless of form, Marat or his fellow players, being chosen to lead the lead was more a psychological choice. He may be ranked 49 in the world and just returned to play after a 7 month lay off, but on his day he can beat anyone [this is recognised by most players - Andy's recent comments ?]. I think it's a smart move and I am sure the French are now scratching their heads and rethinking their order. And hopefully panicking ;D ps feel for Igor though  |

Annie, you should spare a thought for John Fitzgerald. He would love to have the same problem as Shamil. When team selection comes around for him he is like 'so we have Llewton and......um.....well.....oh.....' [no offence to Peter, Chris, Wayne or Mark]  ;D  |

So atleast the selection aint Final and all 5 will travel.
As for the tie my only concern would be getting a point in the doubles match as Clement/llodra are top quality opposition. I am farily confident in the singles but you cannot discount Grosjean and Gasquet but i believe Russia can wrap this tie up on Saturday

sorry emma you're on your own  i am half french but feel no attachment to the davis cup team...that's just the way it is...so between that and the fact that i'm not russian i'll decline to comment on whether marat should or should not play...but if he does i think it could be huge mentally...a good performance in davis cup could give him the confidence he needs going into the pre French tournaments.... |
