Russia 1-0 thanks to Safin
Marat Safin has made an impressive return to Davis Cup by BNP Paribas by winning Russia its first point in their quarterfinal meeting against France.
It took Safin three hours and 41 minutes to defeat No.16 ranked Richard Gasquet 76(4) 46 63 67(1) 61 in the opening match of the tie in Pau.
Arnaud Clement hopes to equalise for France when he faces Nikolay Davydenko next. The two players have met previously only once, when Davydenko defeated the Frenchman in five sets at the 2004 Australian Open.
More soon...

DAVAI MARAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAVAI RUSSIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Marat is back baby. My 1st Marat match in 7 months and he had me screaming, shouting, clapping, frustrated but in the end Jubilant. I think i am going to have a heart attack if he always plays like this. LoL What a quality match 33 ACES i dont think he has served better before. But it was a near enough consistent match by Marat and all importantly gives Russia a 1-0 lead. Even alarmingly for the rest of the guys in his aftermatch victory he said he was happy with his performance and his body is on the road back. DAVAI KOYLA
