Somewhere in that interview he says he's going to rest - hurray for an under-estimated form of medical treatment and good luck for Estoril!
I'm glad he isn't blaming himself for losing the match. It was unfortunate that he got a stomach bug? and a Masters tournament was straight after Valencia. A series of bad coincidences all round. You need more than a few days to get rid of and treat a temperature of 39.5 .

well i don't know webby that well (at all actually) and while i think she (or he?) could have phrased certain things differenty...or just taken a different tone..i completely agree with what is said....marat's head is as straight as it's ever been...since coming back his desire and determination have been there and even today when he could have just let the match slide...he fought to the best of his ability...and that is to his credit and i'm very proud of him for that....so yes anyone who thinks that marat is not there mentally is off...and re doubles..i have to admit that i hadn't thought of it like that and that under the circumstances it was very considerate of marat not to pull out...although that is not surprising casue we know what a big heart he has...so all in all...to question marat's hunger or determination is a bit nuts...it's there....

I cannot believe that some so-called Marat "fans" are ready to doubt his motivation and desire to winning after one lost game! What a shame! Of course I totally agree with Webby!

Well I can finally join in the discussions since last night I watched more than a yellow ball on the scoreboard. I have recorded the match and saw it yesterday evening. It is more than obvious he wasn't well. It was all there: the shots, the "flashes of brilliance" as maryb so rightly called them but he couldn't move. Serve was less than average and there was no movement on court, especially along the baseline. And we all know that without these components you cannot beat other players. There were moments when he would just look at Peter, spread his arms and shrug... it was like "Pete, no matter what I do, it's not working". He didn't feel comfortable... The things that truly reminded me why am I such a fan of his were: 1. His attitude after the match. He wasn't angry, raging or blaming the whole world. He walked off with calmness and dignity and from what I read in the interview I am happy he treats the situation as a bad circumstances combination. 2. The fact that he went out to play doubles. More than that..he went out and took off a set and the super TB score was very close. This means that for the sake of his partner and for the sake of spectators who came to watch him play against Roger, he gave it all he could and that causes nothing but admiration. The good thing now is that he has more than enough time to recover. He can rest until the end of the week and start getting ready for Estoril from Monday. He'll be back soon ;D Hope, positive vibes and our support will do wonders

;D very well put Annie. I completely agree with everything you said. Marat's attitude yesterday was everything it should have been which is why i have no doubts. As soon as he is fully fit, Marat will be fine because everything else is in place. ;D ;D

I agree with all that have been said but i'm still a bit worried about one fact. For sure it's great to think about maybe the show and the spectators that came to see the double but maybe he should think a bit more about his health... Playing with fever and maybe with a sore ankle is kind of risky. You can hurt yourself very badly... Last year he also played with an injured knee for too much time and we all know the result : more than 6 months away from competition. But i'm sure he has a physio or some around him that know better than me about his physical form... But still i'm not sure it was a so great thing for him to play under that conditions... We'll see in the next tournaments, hoping he will be in good health and hopefully in great tennis form! Because we ALL love to see him happy on court ! An marat is a big guy, he knows what is the best for him so let's trust him 100%!

i understand what you are saying carole...i myself was worried about him playing doubles yesterday but i think that for exactly the reason you said, that he played for too long with an injury and had to be out for 6 months, for exactly that reason he would not make that mistake again. If he played it's casue he thought his body could handle it.

Thanks for your report after seeing the match Annie. from what i've read It seems he was lucky to get a Alternate to play MC and he had to defend some ranking points from last year so he took it, presumably before he knew he was ill. As lemony snickert says - A series of unfortunate events. I'm impressed that he was a) able to start the match b) able to finish the match c) able to improve his game during the match d) able to play a second match that day and play well for the sake of other people as well as himself. He must have a very strong physical constitution. I hope he has a good rest now.
