I love the way they said
"He's injured, he hates grass, but he is through to the second round and he was impressive"

LONDON (Reuters) - Russia's Marat Safin wasted little time beating Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan 6-2 6-4 6-4 to reach the second round of Wimbledon on Monday.
The fifth seed and Australian Open champion looked unusually comfortable on a surface he admits is not his favorite against an opponent known for his serve-volley game on grass.
Safin broke in the first game of the match and never looked back, clubbing winners from all angles with his serve and backhand particularly impressive.
The 25-year-old reached the final of the grasscourt event at Halle eight days ago and Monday's display boded well as he seeks to surpass his best previous Wimbledon showing of reaching the quarter-finals in 2001.
Safin secured victory in the 500th match of his career with two successive aces to set up a second round clash with either Slovakia's Karol Beck or Australian Mark Philippoussis, the 2003 Wimbledon finalist.
Safin strolls through 20 June 2005
Marat Safin proved himself to be a serious Wimbledon contender on Monday with a ruthless straight-sets demolition of Paradorn Srichaphan.
The Thai was expected to provide the fifth seed with a stern test on centre court but Safin was in imperious form, sealing a 6-2 6-4 6-4 triumph in one hour, 44 minutes.
The Russian has often struggled at SW19 and has, in the past, made no secret of his loathing for grass. But he remains one of the few players who can challenge defending champion Roger Federer and on this form, he will certainly be tough to beat.
Safin started quickly, breaking the Srichaphan serve in the opening game and he never looked back. Another break moved him 4-1 ahead as the Asian number one struggled to cope with Safin's thundering groundstrokes and neat touch at the net.
The Russian was also impressive on serve with several deliveries exceeding the 130mph-mark. It was, therefore, no surprise that he closed out the first set with ease in just 24 minutes.
Safin picked up where he left off at the start of the second, breaking Srichaphan again to go 3-1 ahead. The 25-year-old Muscovite has suffered from lapses in concentration throughout his career but he could not be accused of that when his opponent broke back to level at 3-3.
Srichaphan hit two wonderful backhand winners to put the pressure on Safin and, for once, he was unable to respond.
Safin then found himself 0-40 down in his next service game but he managed to hang on. And it proved to be a decisive moment in the match as, in the next game, he took the Thai's serve to move 5-4 ahead. There was to be no second chance for Srichaphan as Safin closed it out.
If Srichaphan was expecting the Safin storm to blow itself out he was sadly mistaken as the Australian Open champion kept hitting winner after winner.
Another early break gave him an edge which proved decisive. Even though Srichaphan was being outplayed, he didn't lose his sense of humour. He may have entertained but he just wasn't good enough to overcome Safin, who coasted the rest of the way.

Hey!! I'm so happy toooo! I went to Wimbledon today and managed to get onto centre court in time to see it. And what can I say?? He played absolutely brilliantly! He served well, returned serve well and was just so confident and happy, I've never seen him like that on grass before!! Hope he beats Phillippousis!!

Nice shots and Marat was doing it really well! He found it a little difficult to close that match..., but I was not nervous at all!!! I was so sure he would win the match there. Thanks Lau for the great pictures!! I only saw a bit of the last set of Marat and Srichapan, but he looked great! (and I'm NOT just talking about his looks, his tennis was really good!! ;D) I just hope he's gonna do good against Philippoussis, I really hope he's gonna win, but it seems like he's got a very tough draw ahead of him! It's not fair, they know how much he dislikes playing on grass, they could have made it a BIT easier for him!!

It's not fair, they know how much he dislikes playing on grass, they could have made it a BIT easier for him!! ;D ;D ;D I don´t think so after the "I hate grass" phrase last year, haha. They are no photos of Marat in wimbledon.org (I couldn´t find any), hahaha. Funny and strange... ::)He won an incredible match and he played one of the three matches at central court today ;D But Maybe I`m being a little paranoic here Oh!! I forgot, This match was the 500th in Marat`s pro career Congratulations Marat!!! (Maybe someone said this before , but I didn´t have time to read all yet)
