DID ANYONE GET THIS ON TAPE OR DVD? cos i'd LOVE to get my hands on a full copy... I did tape it, but my vcr is broken and it doesn't record the sound . Besides while I was in the kitchen the tape finished and I noticed that only after a while, so I think the end of the first tie-break is not there . But if you're very desperate I can always send it to you...

This match came on at 3:30am my time and it was worth not getting any sleep. My voice is a little hoarse but I'm still doing fist pumps. ;D Why is the media stunned? We knew he was going to be the one to finally take down the guy who walks on water. Now Federer just swims in the water like us normal people. ;D Happy Birthday Marat !!!! He gave himself a great present. Thank you Marat and thank you Peter Lundgren. Now I need some sleep.

Defeats Give Safin Extra Incentive by Damian Glass Thursday, 27 January, 2005
Marat Safin believes his dramatic four-and-a-half-hour semi-final victory over world No.1 Roger Federer to reach this year's Australian Open men's final is more satisfying than his victory over four-time champion Andre Agassi in last year's semis.
Just as he took five grueling sets to defeat Agassi 12 months ago on Rod Laver Arena, Safin advanced to this year's final after a marathon session on court.
Safin finally clinched a berth in the final after winning the deciding fifth set 9-7 and, without undermining the value of a victory over Agassi, he says the victory over Federer is even more sweeter.
"It's just more - for me it's more valuable - without taking any credit, of course, from Andre," Safin said.
"But this - I have to say is a little bit of a different story, because last year I was coming from a long time being injured, and for me any win would be - it was a surprise, especially beating Agassi of course in five sets."
"But here I'm playing against the No.1 in the world, that he lost only six matches last year. And you're playing against him in the semi-finals and he didn't lose a match till this year. So it's a little bit - it's a little bit - it's a different story. I think this one is more valuable for me."
Safin will enter Sunday night's final having already played in two losing finals - last year to Federer and in 2002 to Thomas Johansson.
Assessing his chances of winning the Australian Open for the first time and what he will need to do differently to be successful, Safin believes learning from his past experiences will be a key for him.
"They were little bit different finals. After I made the first final, I was really nervous because I didn't have so much experience. Like I was a little bit - was a little bit - how you say - didn't expect being in a final, especially against Johansson."
"Supposedly I was the favourite to win this title and I couldn't deal with the pressure at all. So it was a bit too difficult for me."
"Last year, I just ran out of gas, and I couldn't believe either that I'm going to win this time. But now it's a little bit different story. I had two bad experiences in the final, so … I will be really careful and I will really take it really seriously and try to be prepared as much as I can."

;D Hi Guy's Long time no post. What a match! It was truly nailbiting, tense, terrifying and heartstopping. Both players gave it everything, and it makes it all the better that Marat should win in such a fashion. I could hardly type any posts on safinator cos my hands were shaking so much. I'm so proud of him and Its so great for all his fans who have known what he is capable of and have stood by him for so long. I just hope he can go on and win the whole thing now. Happy Birthday Marat...you deserve it.

People ! Wow! You all should calm down. I celebrated it quietly: said "F@ck! he won" in a couple of posts on forums and smiled. That's it... Here's what people demanded from me: Marat's first serve wasn't good in 3rd and 4th sets. The % was low and the pointes on on his second serev was HIGHER than on the first. He should work on that. What else did I have in mind? Sorry I forgot...

i am not sure if this has been posted but ah well.
Here's the post-match interview with Jim Courier:
JC: Marat, you had so many matchpoints in the last set before you finally closed it. Was it difficult for you to believe that you were going to get through? MS: To be honest, uh, I couldn't believe that's why I couldn't take it from the first matchpoint because psychologically I had another side Roger Federer and like it just already puts you pressure that no matter what, no matter how many matchpoints you have to really win it and you have to- do it really be careful.
JC: Well, that was one thing you weren't tonight was careful. You really can't play careful against Federer, can you? Don't you have to play to your limit to beat a guy like that? MS: Yeah, but when it's coming the moment and you're a little bit choking-- that's what it's called in tennis. (smiles)
JC: Is that what it's called? MS: Yes, we- yes. (smiling) And it's a really bit difficult, you know because I lost seven times and uh. He just- too good.
JC: Well, he wasn't tonight. You were down matchpoint in the fourth set tiebreak and Roger attacked his second serve, he hit a brilliant drop volley and you had the answer. You had to think the match was over at that point. How did you get to that shot? How did you get creative with the lob there? MS: At this moment, you know? At this moment in the match you don't really think. You just come naturally. Whatever comes, comes. I had so many times to think about my backhand down the line. Matchpoint, you don't think. You go for it. When it's in, it's good. When it's coming out, it's not so good. (cheering and applause)
JC: And how about the emotion in this match? Because you're an emotional player and Roger we don't see a lot of, we saw more of it tonight than usual. How were you able to control your emotions out here because you were a little up and down but by and large, you were pretty straight. MS: (sighs and then shrugs) (Looks at Jim)
JC: It's my job, I'm sorry. (laughter) MS: It's uh-
JC: Do you need a hug or what? MS: Yes, I need some hug. (Marat and Jim both hug each other) =) (applause)
MS: To be honest, it's a little bit difficult to give, to find right answer to explain to all the people that are coming here right now and what I felt at the matchpoints, how I keep myself quiet, even though I broke the racket and threw the balls outside the court. (laughter) And it's uh really for the people, for you to understand what's going on in the court. And the matchpoints. Even from the first moment when you step on the court, it's like a brain fight against each other. Against Roger Federer. So psychologically, it's difficult. And it's difficult what it feels. And we really feel the game. And we really want to show what we can. And uh, just it's already 12:30 at night. (applause) So- uh, we just, I think, we played as best we could and I couldn't give anything more than that. I really hope that you really appreciate, I know if you're staying here until so late, appreciate the game (cheering and applause)
JC: Well it is 30 minutes past your birthday, you turned 25 just yesterday. Quite a great- (crowd starts singing Happy Birthday) and, here you go- Sing along won't you? MS: I can't sing to myself. (Jim smiles) (At the end of the song, Marat does a bow and then claps )
JC: Well, as your reward for the birthday gift that you've given to yourself, you're now to your third final here in Melbourne. And you've been- you've been close. You haven't quite gotten to the title and now you've taken out the world's number one but now two and three remain. Lleyton and Andy will go to battle tomorrow. You have two days off before the final. Physically it shouldn't be a problem for you. Emotionally, coming back for this match, how are you going to do it? MS: It's really--more mental. Not physical. I already lost twice in the two finals. I had no even chance to win the final. I'm going to play on Sunday. And the final is the third time I'm here. Hopefully I'll have the support from the people I'll try to get through with it.
JC: I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say if Lleyton's in the final you're probably not gonna get a lot of support. (laughter and applause) MS: But I think the people here really know a good game. So they really appreciate that (applause). So hopefully we'll have a good final. If Lleyton wins, it's like a present from me to you (laughter). But if I win, I'm sorry but uh (more laughter). But I think the match today really worth it.
JC: It certainly was. Marat Safin to the third Australian Open finals. Congratulations. Well done, young man.

Ok, I'm probably the last person on the planet to say this, but WOW MARAT, YOU DID IT!! I nearly fell off my chair when I heard the news (yep, heard the news...didn't get to see the match *cries* and don't know when I'll get to even see a tape of it *cries even louder* The photos of him...he looks exhausted and exstatic and everything in between. I'm SO immensely proud to be his fan today, and it must be an absolutely amazing birthday present. Happy 25th Marat!!!! So on to the final, which I'm excited and depressed about (because I won't get to see it....*wails uncontrolably*) And thanks to everyone who's been doing to web-monkeying/turtling (Nicki, Jiat, Me, Damita, Vass, Christina, Safinno1, Anna, Maria V and the others I've no doubt forgotten) you're doing an amazing job *thank you thank you thank you*
