Now that was just AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! That really WAS awesome, Vass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK, except from the 1st serve % - 49% but that can be forgiven. ;D 6-2, 6-4, 6-2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Marat was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! NOW COME ON FEDERER!!!!!!!!!!!! OK, gotta run now, love you all, have a great day or night or whatever you're having! Ruth, you must go to Denise now or somewhere to watch the semi, vs Fed or Agassi, it's gonna be HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I so hope you'll be able to see it! *WAILS* I'm working all weekend and probably won't even see daylight .......... So everybody cheer extra loud for me....c'mon Marat you need to do this, you REALLY NEED TO!!! We could do with some news on a rogue Federer injury right now .... anybody know a couple of big guys who could rough him up just before the match....?? Big shout out to Vlad & RAP and all the others; it's good to see you guys again! Loved your 'divine game plan' for Marat, Vlad... 'BIG POINTS' really stood out to me - Marat needs to stop wimping out of them, so a big 'amen brother' from me ;D (BTW, I just wanted to mention I've deleted the shoutbox/tagboard from the homepage indefinitely. It didn't seem worth the hassle, to be honest)

Hi All. This is my first time posting on any form of site, but I'm so exciting about Marat's match, I want to share in the joy I've been reading on this site for about a year. I'm in the LA area and they will show the Safin-Federer match tomorrow morning. I can look at the live score on line if I stay up for it ...... but I'm so nervous for him. I think this could be the one for him. And although I'm as old as his mother (and have no matronly feelings for him whatsoever) -- his butt did look good. I find him one of the few interesting players to watch. I was so into this tournament that I emailed ESPN about their failure to show any of his matches. (Everythings Andy Serena and Andre here in the States!).
Also want to thank you guys for all the pics, info and insites. Good luck!

Welcome to TGFR CaliforniaSuds! I'm sure you gonna have good times and good friends here. As Damita said, we wait for this match since the draw came up. Very exciting. But I still believe Marat can make it. Just one, one factor to the victory, his mind. So C'mon my dear, stay cool! You can beat everyone in the world, then we'll celebrate and taste the VICTORY together, ok? ;D

Safin Ready for Another ShotThursday, 27 January, 2005 No.1 Roger Federer [SUI] vs No.4 Marat Safin [RUS] Last year's Australian Open men's singles final will always be remembered as the day Roger Federer grabbed a hold of the men's No.1 ranking. Only history will tell when he relinquishes it again. The record books will always show that Federer defeated Marat Safin in straight sets to begin his brilliant 2004, which included three Grand Slam triumphs and another eight tournament victories for good measure. What will probably be forgotten in years to come is that Safin was unseeded, on the comeback from injury and had played a remarkable 27 sets in his six previous matches, including a five-set quarter-final (against Andy Roddick) and semi-final (Andre Agassi). Safin enters this rematch with contrasting fitness and preparation. Where last year he had exceeded everyone's expectations and was under no pressure - internal or external - this time he is the No.4 seed, has conceded only one set and looks fit and fired up. But world No.1 Federer is clearly playing at a level above any other player on the circuit, a fact he demonstrated only two nights ago when he simply destroyed four-time Australian Open champion Agassi 6-3 6-4 6-4 in a much-awaited quarter-final. The Swiss star has not dropped a set in the tournament and when Takao Suzuki, of Japan, pushed him a second-round night match on Rod Laver Arena, he reached a little further into his bag of tricks and pulled out some amazing shots to make the inevitable victory more entertaining for the crowd. There's a recent history of classic Thursday night semi-final matches at Melbourne Park and Safin may feel suitably equipped to lift another cog and take this match right up to Federer. What's important to remember, however, is Federer's ability to alter his game according to the qualities of his opponent. Following his defeat, Agassi noted that the 23-year-old's serve and court movement were the two areas which had improved the most during his rise to world domination. Certainly, Federer served out of this world in his quarter-final defeat of the American. Head to head, Federer holds a 6-1 advantage, Safin's only victory coming on carpet in Moscow in 2002. Most recently, Federer notched a straight-sets win at the Tennis Masters Cup in Houston, although the second set tie-break was almost worth an extra set, decided 20 points to 18. There is no reason to expect much different at Melbourne Park in 2005, and the Swiss master should have too many weapons and all the answers. Expect Federer to advance to Sunday's men's final with a straight-sets victory. ___________ Ruth>> I am soooo soooo sorry you're gonna miss this match! We'll cheer all we can, sure!!! And welcome CaliforniaSuds, we are certainly doing our best here to keep everyone up-to-date regarding Marat! Glad you finally decided to join in!
