I found some photos of the Davis Cup tie in Buenos Aires against Argentina (April 2003). Argentina won and Marat couldn´t play as he got injured in his right unkle during training. That was not a good year Although I have a nice anecdote of those days. Wherever the russian players went, they were insulted (this is hard to explain... It was not about being purely violent, but about bothering them, being annoying.... I don´t know how is it in other countries, but this is very typical of southamerican football culture). Those were really strong bad words (said as a joke and with a smile)!!!! Of course, Marat understood everything and I personally saw how he couldn´t stop laughing about some really ingenious insults. (Afterwards, the next day I read in a sports newspaper this anecdote).Sometimes they shouted at him "Safiiiiiin" and when he turned his head, they insulted him. In the newspaper they said that he finally stopped paying attention when they shouted at him calling his name;D ;D I think it was nice not to get angry because of this (I would )
I´m sure you saw this one. It was taken shortly after arriving to "Emperador" Hotel in Buenos Aires:
Marat training in the court outside the River Plate Club stadium built for the occasion (it was afterwards disassembled):
(he´s serving in this little one )
The fatal moment:
Walking out of court. He´s got a pain expression in his face, walks in one foot and is barefoot (is this the word? ;D):
Signing autographs (I obtained my autograph of Marat there ;D ;D , though, I had problems with my camera and I´m not in that photo )
Watching the other russian players´ training:
not a very nice one..... But it´s still Marat ;D
Another one, with a fan. He didn´t have sock in his poor right foot ;D
