Woohoo, Federer lost against Hrbaty ! ok, shouldn't be so happy coz i'm just being mean, but he was in Marat's part of the draw so it's all good ;D Damita, I saw the match, well Fedex was obviously exhausted towards the end (as he said after the final vs Andy on Sunday already). To break the record streak of Sampras would have been amazing of course but ...... He played superb 1,5 sets though! Just couldn't finish it off in the 2nd and then...... What I wanted to say is that Marat is gonna play Morrison not Melzer!!! Well? Is Morrison on the roll now? Or can Marat keep it together? We'll see tomorrow! I do hope Marat can go far this time, he wasn't so optimistic just for nothing, he knows he's top fit and ready to kick some major a***!

Wow, that Federer lost... well, he's up so high now, he'll probably fall down sometime.... now he can rest for a little while. BUT, does Marat play tomorrow and what time? Because I'll be spending tomorrow night somewhere else, where there is no internet. So I'm afraid I'll be unaware of the result untill thursday afternoon... now, that is torture

I'm not as lucky as you Steph . The polish channel which broadcast the turney airs matches only till 9 pm (which is 3 pm in Cincy), so I don't think I'll be able to see the match. If I'm lucky enough, I'll see only some first games and then they'll stop broadcasting it again (just like they did in Toronto )

Well dunno if anyone else saw any of the matches today, happened to see Roger and Hrbaty, don't think Roger was unhappy at all to have lost to his fellow countryman. He is pretty much set, he will be heading back to Europe ahead of the guys, have himself a nice rest before Athens, and be ready for the USO....... I also saw a snipet of the Arazi/DSpadea match, Arazi was about to serve, he was serving, Spadea walks of the court throws down his racquet and says he's finished or words to that effect.......can u imagine if Marat had done that? It was on tv cause no one, not the umpire, not Arazi knew what was going on. Really back sportsmanship. I had meant to add that Spadea then cited heat exhaustion as the reason why he gave up / retired Arazi Hennman should be good tomorrow too Roddick / Max......wow Max really played well, I was so wishing he would win, had his chance in the second set when he was up in the second tie break, really too bad. But again, there was this microphone somewhere to the back of the court, and 5 times during the match, when a game was over, Roddick would go over and knock it over, and the linesman/guy/woman would go and reset it, and no one said anything.............can u imagine if Marat did that even ONCE they would have been all over him. I actually though Val and Cliff would have a strokes during the match as they were soooooo sure that Andy would win, and they were so bias when Max was winning.... oh well.... As for JC......quite a come back from a back injury eh? I guess we may get a little of Marat's match tomorrow as he is playing an American, but it is not one of the featured matches on ESPN. Hewitt's is and of course Andre's............. GOOD LUCK MARAT........you can win this match, just do it! ;D

I'm suprised that Hrbaty beat Federer....well as they say, what goes up must come down! Anyway, that's less competition for Marat, so yay! BTW, thanx Jiat for the interview!!! ;D

M. SAFIN/J. Novak 6-3, 6-0
MARAT SAFIN
THE MODERATOR: Questions for Marat.
Q. How did you feel today?
MARAT SAFIN: Well, it was good. It was, actually, for my first win in two months. So it was pretty -- I was pretty happy. I was a little bit nervous at the beginning, and then I started to feel better and better. A little bit I gain some confidence. And was good. Good win for me.
Q. Can you talk about your past few tournaments where you've had early exits.
MARAT SAFIN: Yeah, was like a little bit disappointing for me. I had chances, and I had I would say -- just I had a lot of chances. I couldn't take them. Even against -- last week against Kiefer I didn't play really my best tennis, but I was there, I had the opportunity in the second set. Like I had the set and 2-Love. I couldn't hold my serve. And then it started to be complicated, and then he started to play with more confidence. And he beat me. It was like third-set tiebreak is a lottery. So I was little bit unlucky. Also in Wimbledon was same situation, you know. So it's basically the first win from French Open.
Q. How important is it for this momentum?
MARAT SAFIN: Very important. Very important. Very important to win some matches and start to win, you know, to get the confidence back, and try to work on yourself, not to rush too much, and try to go for another one. I mean, it's so complicated to get the confidence back. So you have to, you know, to take match by match and go slowly because everybody's playing pretty well. And they have to be focused. It's tough conditions. So it might help me because I didn't play a lot of matches so, you know, I am a little bit more fresh than other players.
Q. It was a pretty quick win today. What was the difference?
MARAT SAFIN: I mean, he didn't -- I played like I had nothing to lose, so I tried to do my best. I was running, I was fighting, I was serving well. So I didn't make big change in my match. And then he didn't really play well. I mean, I have to be honest. He didn't really felt comfortable on the court. So it was a matter of making a break in the first set, and things would be much easier. That's why it went so easy in the second set. He couldn't find himself on the court basically, and I took advantage of it.
Q. What do you think of the tournament here?
MARAT SAFIN: It's a Masters Series. Great tournament. I mean, even to -- in such tough conditions, not really a big city, you know, for Mason basically; is not Cincinnati. People are still interested in it. It's good entertainment for them. I hope they enjoy it. Because this tournament is here for a long time, so it means that it's doing well. And a lot of kids. So it's quite important. I mean, if the people still come and still interested in tennis, it means that we're doing well.

I'm just hoping Dutch teletext will show his endresult quickly after the match.... Dutch teletext is usually quite slow with that, german and belgian teletexts are faster.
