Marat Safin survived a match point Wednesday before reaching the quarterfinals of the Gerry Weber Open when France's Fabrice Santoro withdrew in the third set with a thigh injury. The Australian Open champion led 3-6, 7-6 (7), 3-2 when Santoro quit the $800,000 grasscourt event after his left thigh was taped courtside. Safin fought through his own knee injury — one the second-seeded Russian said has plagued him for two months — for just his second win on grass in three years. "It's very painful. On some serves I can't jump," Safin said. "But I will play Wimbledon and then take a month off." Safin had lost seven of his previous eight matches against Santoro and came close to defeat again when he trailed 6-5 in the second set tiebreaker. Safin survived the scare and Santoro then got hurt in the second game of the final set. "He didn't move very well — I was just waiting to break his serve, then I knew he would quit," Safin said. "I think I played very well today." sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2005/06/08/sports/s072630D56.DTLand i love his hair Ruth, but not the facial thing.......will he shave before coming here?lol

1. Ruth and Teresa....I LOVE THE HAIR!!!!!!!!! Man...soooooooo cute ;D 2. I think I knew it was too good to be true for me to meet him and at the back of my mind I always suspected something would happen...so now I'll just wait for an e-mail telling me they posted it Oh well...maybe some day I'll finally get to meet him ;D 3. Now I am REALLY worried about Davis Cup. I mean OK we have Kolya who is great on clay but he can't play alone! Misha is still recovering from his injury, Igor is improving but he can't face people like Grosjean and Matheu. God help us! Now I am in a really bad mood...LOL

Hi to all. I'm Soooooo Happy Marat's Doing Good On Grass!! I hope he doesn't push the knee to far, but I think hel'll be okay. This is fun for Wimby. Woo. Woo. And, he's so cute too ...... Bonus for me. He does look somewhat thin and pasty. Pump it up.

Re: looking skinny, I agree. I think this is due to the fact that he's injured and he himself admitted that he cannot work on his physical form as much these days due to the knee problem

oh i didn't see that he plans to rest for a month and possibly not play Davis Cup before i posted that one Re: the tea party...sorry about that, Annie...but yeah, hopefully he'll still present it to you even if he doesn't play...he might watch it, no?
anyhow, CONGRATULATIONS TO MARAT!!! and also Pimpim for the doubles!! Continue what you're doing guys!!!
BUT...i'm worried about the match with Ollie...his game could make Marat run for the balls from side to side and it could be bad for the knee...i hope Marat has some kind of plan for this...
