3-0 2nd set, he is on a roll. He is, now............ i don't know if anyone else was watching BUT definately in the first set, to me, he was nervous, not really very confident. Martin is playing really hopelessly. Marat made 2 mistakes in the first set at the net and you could see his shoulders slump, I though oh lord, hang in there baby its only the first set, its okay. He also seemed to have a little trouble closing out the first set even if he did so in the end with an ace. When Marat won the first set you could see the relief on his face. BUT in the second set Marat got much more confident and started really swinging the racquet, you could see he was much more comfortable. In the second set, Marat mis hit a ball into the air He then caught it with the handle of his racquet and his body, and then opened his pocket and rolled the ball into the pocket............incredible..........he is so funny, the crowed loved it. So did I ;D The crowd seemed really happy that he won. The relief was there on his face also that of Peter and the men in his box.........seemed like loads of them!! He is going to have to play like he did in the second set to stand a chance against JCF He stayed and signed tons of autographs and gave away two towels. He looks as georgeous as ever.............has not shaved in days.........and his hair is still very long, and still wearing the hat, he had on blue and black. No doubt lau will have pics up sooner rather than later I forgot to say, WELL DONE MARAT ** DAVAI MARAT and good luck tomorrow

Ohhhhh what a turn around!! Well done Marat!! Loved this from eurosport: ' 3rd seed Marat Safin hammered Spain's Albero Martin 6-1 6-0 in 50 minutes! The Russian is through to the second round for a mouthwatering match against Juan Carlos Ferrero' DAVAI MARAT!! BTW, apparently Marat might have some Russian friends with him in Hamburg hence the men in the box - if anyone sees a certain Mr. Nerushenko, you know where to find me

From ATP site: Safin Wins BigMarat Safin played flawless tennis to beat in-form Alberto Martin 6-1, 6-0 in impressive fashion and advance to the second round of the Masters Series Hamburg on Tuesday. The 25-year-old Russian will now face Juan Carlos Ferrero for the ninth time in his career.

I don't know if I should get excited about his win. Albert played pure crap. In Rome, Marat beat Novak 61 61 in the second and third set and still lost to Almagro next round.
