Well he lost. ::)Don't know why but I am not too disappointed given his up and down style of playing over the years and he is tired. Just hope it won't weaken his confidence to do well in Paris. And I really think that Peter really has to work his butt off to put Marat back to the right track. If Marat wants to challenge Federer, he has a long way to go.

LOL Lena thanks for those pics My my that is one angry man!!
I can find that Agassi won his match against Verdasco but not sure who he plays next in the semis, but cant find out if Henman won his againist Novak?
Does anyone know? This is so important for Marat. For me its nerve wracking. Lord Marat needed that win today to take the pressure off of Bercy.
Bloody Agassi plays Tommy Haas in the semis, i just hope Tommy beats him, that they go 3 sets, and that Tommy exhausts Agassi

Surly Safin Slumps Out of St. Petersburg
12 minutes ago Sports - Reuters
By Gennady Fyodorov
ST. PETERSBURG (Reuters) - Top seed and crowd favorite Marat Safin (news) was knocked out of the St. Petersburg Open quarterfinals Friday, falling 6-4, 6-1 to Michael Llodra (news).
Coming off an impressive victory at last week's Madrid Masters, Safin stumbled after encountering stiff resistance from the seventh-seeded Frenchman.
Llodra broke the Russian's serve in the 10th game to claim the opening set before securing a break in the fourth game of the second to take a 3-1 lead.
After that, the former world number one appeared to lose interest in the match as he surrendered the next three games to go out in less than an hour.
The defeat ended Safin's seven-match winning streak.
"I've been playing non-stop for several weeks and obviously I'm getting tired both physically and mentally," Safin said. "I tried but it wasn't enough."
In Saturday's semi-finals, Llodra will now meet unseeded Slovak Karol Beck (news), who eliminated another Frenchman Cyril Saulnier (news) 6-3, 7-6.
Safin had problems penetrating Llodra's steady serve and he also had a difficult time with Brazilian umpire Carlos Bernardes.
SAFIN'S WRATH In the ninth game of the first set with the score level at 4-4, Bernardes incurred Safin's wrath when he overruled a call and ordered a replay instead of awarding the Russian a point.
A visibly frustrated Safin argued in vain as Llodra held his serve before breaking his opponent in the next game.
Then, facing a triple break-point in the fourth game of the second set Safin once again tried to persuade the umpire to change his mind but to no avail.
"Of course, it's very frustrating to see the umpire making a clear mistake but he doesn't want to change his mind no matter what," said Safin.
"It's just too bad for the game that we have people who think they're above the law."
Bernardes brushed aside the incident. "It was a pointless discussion on his (Safin) part," the Brazilian said.
Llodra, however, was sympathetic with his opponent.
"I think the first two mistakes were in my favor but the next two were for Marat. But there are mistakes in every match and you just have to go on," he said. "In any case, I played a good match. Marat was a little tired because he always plays a lot of matches.
"I was very solid on my serve, tried to stay positive and be aggressive on his serve," added Llodra, who also reached the last four as a qualifier on his first and only previous visit to Russia's second city in 2001.

I think he ordered special reinforced rackets from Head, so that he doesn't get racket abuse code violations, and now is regretting it. Sometimes it realy is easier to get the warning and go on. realy easire. I'm speaking from my own experience.

Lord Lena I so hope you are right girl He does show his best under pressure, but Bercy will be a lotta pressure BTW Lena, did you see the matches? Did Marat seem tired or that he just could not get a rhythm against Llodra? I read somewhere that Marat seemed irritated with the umpire and the player (Llodra) so did he let the both of them get to him? Reports also said Llodra was serving very well, and he also served well yesterday? I am just concerned as Marat may have to face Llodra at Bercy and also he may have to face Lopez again at Bercy.......I just cringe at the thought. Ok I think I am now exhausted, gotta go do something else, I am getting totally consumed here.

Ok I think I am now exhausted, gotta go do something else, I am getting totally consumed here. I saw the match. Yes Llodra was serving well. I don't know what happened, Marat was EXTREMELY frustrated and angry. The discussion with the umpire took quite long. I've seen at least 2 discussions with the ump, at the last one Marat screamed...don't know if he screamed directly at the ump, but he started talking to him right after that. There was a problem with the balls as well. At a certain point Marat refused several balls which he threw to the umpire so he could see for himself. The ump later kept one ball. I don't think Marat was angry at Llodra. At the ump and at himself. Seemed to me he was just too frustrated and he gave up hope early. It wasn't tanking, if anyone may think that. In my opinion it was certainly not that. So, this was my little report. And my last, because everytime I watch he loses.

Myke >> thanks so much for your report, Wish u had better news, but know that is just how it is/was. Please u should not think your watching means he loses....no way. From what you say Marat really sounded frustrated and very upset today, poor habibi. For me tanking does not even enter into the equation, its not even an option, the tide was against him today, those evil forces were out there in full force and there was nothing he could do

Teresa>> Llodra is tall and strong, and yes he serves well. Not only today i mean, he serves well in general. but he's not a threat for Marat in bercy, nor anywhere else. What happened today is an "accident", lots of reasons i think (tiredness... article said he kinda surroendered>>bercy in a few days i guess he didn't want to fight after he lost the first set cuz that would have meant more tiredness... and there are more points to get in Paris than in Saint Pétersbourg). And i think the pressure won't be that big in bercy. I've read on mtf that he'll need to win only one match to get his ticket for Houston (if someone can confirm this info pls do). If pressure there is it will only be about winning the tournament or not, but i think it won't have anything to do with his qualification for the Masters Cup (he did the biggest part of the job in Madrid). I'm not sure but isn't Carlos Bernades the umpire who gave him a penalty for pulling his shorts in RG? and this summer too, i don't remember which tournament, Marat had another argument with him... they're best buddies for life, aren't they? ;D
