Okay I see that the topic is kind of closed and everybody said what you wanted to say, but I wasn't around so please let me post my last feelings about this. First I just want to say that I'M STILL HIS FAN, coz after reading my post many people might think that I am not anymore... Anyway I was in Sopot yesterday and I was extremaly curious what had happened in his match so I asked random people what they saw on Wednesday. They all said the same: he did not fight at all. He didn't care about the match, he was making many mistakes and even didn't get angry. I know that he makes mistakes in every match, but then we see that he's angry, he breaks the raquets, he talks or shouts to himself. He wasn't doing that in the match with Lopez, the match passed by and Marat was just not there. No fight. He was not trying to win his match. But Patri has already told you about it so I guess you know what was his attitude. I know that Ruth said we shouldn't have concentrated on Sopot, but if he chose to play here he should have at least try. I'm sorry to say it, but if he planned to lose then he has no honour, coz sportmen don't act this way. And that's my main point in this whole discussion in this topic... he doesn't care about the opinion of Poles... he can play like this with his Polish fans coz who we are? we are nothing... we don't have any prestigious ATP turney... we don't have any good tenis players... we don't know anything about tennis... But I want everybdy to remember that we're still the PEOPLE and we also want some respect!! If he comes to play a turney we expect some fight from him. Everybody booed his performance and people have very bad opinions about him. But it's no surprising as he treated them this way.... But I'm sure he doesn't even care  As a Pole I feel offended, but I'm still his fan and I want to forget about this what happened. I hope he comes back here one day and prooves everybody that he can fight. It will be very difficult for him to regain the trust of Poles, but I truly believe it can happen. As for now I wish him good luck in Athens and I'm looking forward to seeing good results there. Everybody got what they wanted - he went to Athens to prepare for the competition. The rant is over. |

hey Magda! i feel sorry for the Polish fans who saw his match, and i'm not surprised they feel offended. Marat said he'd like to play in Sopot next year if the officials of the tournament are ok with that, so i hope he'll play and show great tennis this time and i hope you had a great time yesterday despite his absence and the absence of Dinara, and that you saw good matches and had fun |

I was really saddened by your post. And can understand your hurt and anger. Its really understandable that you and Polish fans would be upset by the whole situation

Polish people do know what tennis is all about, and you do have a good tourney, it may not be a prestigious as some of the others, but then there are others that are not that prestigious also, and its not every country that has good players, but Poland has had good players and will again.
I agree I agree and can't dispute this feeling, I can hear Marat saying these same words should he be in a similar situation, so I am sure he feels bad about it, and I truly believe he does have respect for the Polish people.
Magda, I can't apologise for Marat, but as stauch fan/admirer of Marat I wish to apologise to you and the Polish people for the disappointment and hurt cause as a result of Marat's actions.
I do hope that you had an enjoyable day in Sopot

Everybody on this MB seems to have several names and I'm still the one who doesn't have a nick name....  yep I did and I wrote about it in personal discussions forum. Anastasia had to withdraw because she has a small injury (shoulder). Yesterday the games were suspended so she would be forced to play two matches today. The injury is not dangerous, but she didn't want to risk before Olympics and US Open. |
