For sure,we are great team!marat can be happy that we are still his fans! Team is ok......but marat........... We have still hard work with him..... Ofcourse we are! ;D And you are right. Oh well, at least he is not as boring as Federer, winning every match without any suprises. At least, like he did untill Cincinatti. I prefer Marat with his ups and downs. ;D

Honestly? I don't think he wanted to, I think he was under pressure, and he was dammed if he did and dammed if he did not, it was a no win situation for him and I wish to God he had done better in Cincy so not to have been forced into this horrendos situation. Cincy was pretty good IMO. He lost only in quarters, and against Hewitt, who was in a good week. Whatever the result in cincy was or could have been, i don't agree about the fact that he went to Sopot because he was under pressure. He could have said to the tournaments officials that he wasn't going there finally. To say 'no' at the very last moment is not acting cool, and they would have lost their top seed... but that was probably the best thing to do one week before the Olympics (and with the US Open that comes just after...), and i think they would have understood. And even if they couldn't understand, that was his decision to take. Lots of players withdraw from tournaments for no other reason than tiredness or tough schedule, that wouldn't be the first time a player acts this way. The ATP could have fined him, and so? what's the big deal? I really think he was free to chose whether he would play in sopot or not. apparently he has been advised not to, so IMO there was no pressure to play there, even the contrary.... aww, no need to Teresa Thanks Patri for the reports, i'm sorry you had to watch this match live, must have been a sad moment. and hello Mike, welcome on the board (btw, Vass>>rotfl ;D)

Hey guys. I'm new here and I'm from Germany. Hope my english isn't to bad. The first time I saw Marat was at the AO 2004. It's a really "strange" Story how I came to watch the AO. I can tell you that antoher time. Of course I like Marat very much and so I'm very sad that he lost but...yeah...that can happen. Look at the French Open where Starace defeated Grosjean in 3 Sets and nearly defeated Marat. Or take a look at the Croatia Open where Volandri trashed Moya 6:3 , 6:2. I just want to say that this can happen to anybody. Of course it's sad that this happened to Marat, but....better here than in New York, right? Respect Mike, thank you for saying that Welcome to the board, I hope you will be around for some time

Sorry I'm a bit late on this topic - still having internet trouble OK, first of all >> WHOA! This thread turned into a veritable graveyard yesterday I can't believe you got so upset over such a MINOR tournament! C'mon guys, he was playing Sopot. No offense to the Polish fans, but it's not exactly the most prestigious tournament on the ATP And to cap it all, Marat was playing on CLAY in the middle of hardcourt season. IMHO Losing is the best thing he could've done before he ruined all his US Open preparation ;D I would have been a little bit worried if he'd tried to win the damn thing...... I personally couldn't wait to see him get on the plane to Athens So to all the fans who were suicidal after his loss - put it in perspective! He's got a tough season ahead of him, with the US Open at the pinnacle. Winning Sopot would have made him very rushed and very tired for Athens, and also very stressed and lacking confidence for US Open. If he needed to make a 'tactical loss' to preserve himself for US Open, then so be it (and I'm not saying he did! I'm just saying I can understand where he's coming from, if that's the case). From the sound of those fan reports (Thanks Patri!!) his standard of tennis during practise is fine. I know this sounds like heresy, but I'd rather see Marat deliberately lose a minor match because he's got a bigger plan and is in control, rather than lose a match despite fighting and fighting and just not being good enough, and watching him fall to pieces. His management were emphasising 'not to focus on Sopot' weeks back, so why some of you decided he was going to win it, I don't know.... Marat's got bigger plans, I think But don't ask me why he played Sopot......*cough* appearence fee & see family ??*cough* OK, so now we've got the weird detour out of the way, we can concentrate on the BIG trophies of the year > Athens & US Open, here we come!!! ;D ;D

Ruthm I'm not blaming him for losing. I'm blaming him for 1. Comming to Sopot (for obvius reasons, you said it yourself),2. Lying (he said he'll try. When asked about the tourney he could have said something else. 3. for Tanking. Tanking is unacceptable in sports. Okay, he tanked, let them fine him. He still remains the only player in history who is tanking. Oh, I don't want to continue the discussion. And franly I'm flying away in acouple of hours. But if you want to object, find my answer in the previus posts, on my and say Maryann's posts on Safinator and MTF. ;D Bye.
