LOL!! ;D. Hmmm.... following your thinking, there's a big chance he will perform great on hard courts coz after his loss in Wibly the expectations are low . Fingers crossed!!! it's the burden of all the expectations he feels are heaped on him...which i'll admit exists... so anyway, he feels that ppl expect a lot out of him, so he stresses himself out to try to live up to it... happens to anyone. what i can't figure out though is the defeatist attitude if he's trying to live up to expectations.

what i can't figure out though is the defeatist attitude if he's trying to live up to expectations. Downplaying other ppl's expectations, to some ppl not being able to live up to other ppl's expectations of you is the worst feeling in the world, so if you have that defeatist attitude ppl will expect less from you, ergo lower expectations, which makes it easier for you to live up to their expectations which makes you feel good about yourself (Plus if you have personal problems (which I still don't believe he sorted, even if he stated after Hamburg that they were sorted) that will certainly contribute to a defeatist attitude) -xxx-jes me

to some ppl not being able to live up to other ppl's expectations of you is the worst feeling in the world, I've been there so I know what this feeling is like, and it is worse than the worse feeling (if there is such a thing) I think he has to live up to sooooooo many different people's expectations of him and a result he is under tremendous pressure all the time trying to please everyone, and as you know, 'you can please some of the people some of time but you can't please all the people all of the time' Whether this results in a defeatist attitude I really can't say, but I know if you then start to prioritize who you wish to please first, or whose expecations are the most important to you I think one will pick the emotional ones, like loved ones, and for the rest I think it does make one want to say f**k it, I am outta here, I agree about the personal problems, just not about the defeatist bit though, I just think ......not wanting to upset anyone, and I am saying this whilst I head for the safey of the duvet.......that our habibi is in love, and when you are in love and you are either not getting to love as you wish or having problems loving as you wish all else around you becomes intolerable......you can't always think rationally. Maybe I am not thinking rationally.......whatever

Luciitenne, did not get a chance to get back to you, I don't think I said what I said that well, Its not so much that his problems on court are because he is in love, that sort of sounds as if been in love will mean problems on the court. I think what I was trying to say is, I think Marat would like to have more personal time with his girlfriend, he is also not doing that well on court, there is no balance, if he was doing well I guess the time off would be more enjoyable, the time off having not done well on the court would be and I am only guessing here would be more stressful, thus some stress on the relationship its like a no win situation, This lumped with the feeling that he has to live up to so many peoples expectations of him, you know, everyone wants a little piece of Marat, is a real burden, its like playing tennis I can't please anyone, so I might as well get outta here, take a break, for me, I would not say this is a defeatist attitude but I think this situation is temporary.he will get his s**t together as they say!

Hey, ppl!!!!!!!! Long time no... type... (that doesn't sound good at all... ;D) Anyhow, I've been busy with my NERVE-WRECKING exams (still have 2 more to go and then two weeks break, and THEN the THE WEEK FROM HELL-two exams per day. Sucks bigtime and I'm so nervous I can't even sleep. Gosh, if I don't pass all my exams and get into University I'm gonna KILL MYSELF!!!! -phew, vent over...I'm VERY stressed out these days... ) Couldn't stay away on this one, so here goes: So no girlfriend is bad cos that means that he's partying all the time with God Knows Who and steady girlfriend is bad cos now his mind isn't on tennis anymore. What the... I'm not trying to find him excuses (he doesn't need or deserve them ), but I don't think girlfriends are his biggest problem (right now or ever). The girlfriend angle is wrong, in my oppinion. Sure he has personal problems (who doesn't?) but 'personal problems' is such a vague term that it can mean anything from 'he's dumping his girlfriend/ his girlfriend is dumping him' to 'he's looking for a new apartment' to 'he wants to be with his girlfriend and is sick of tennis right now' to 'he's seeking another sponsor' (please, Marat, go with Nike!!! ) and so on (you get the picture...) What I mean is that this term is used for such a variety of issues that you just can't take it literally. It's the whole PR/diplomacy/privacy thing... Gotta go now. I don't know if I'm gonna be around these days to catch up but you kids play nice while I'm gone! P.S. A big GOOD LUCK to all of you who are taking your highschool final exams (or whatever you guys call them... ) this year!!!!!!!

You're right Neo, we don't know what the problem is and I'm starting wonder if this "personal problem" is a conflict/problem within the Safin family. Dinara hasn't played well since the Open Gaz de France Tournament in Febuary. I wonder if someone is fighting or if grandma/cousin/aunt is sick or something like that and that is why Marat and Dinara are both playing so poorly as of late. Don't know what is wrong, but hopefully it gets sorted out before the US Open

Don't know what is wrong, but hopefully it gets sorted out before the US Open I don't think it's so much a family problem based purely on Dinara's situation, because during Wimbledon her manager (same as Marat's) said Dinara should never have played Wimbledon, her injury was far worse than she let on and she was in some pain, but she was so desperate to do well at Wimbledon......poor girl...I really feel for her, it must be so frustrating.
