New Balls Generation The GSs that I like most are AO 04 and AO 05. Of course, a lot has to do with Marat being the runner-up and champion. In addition, those two GSs were where New Balls Generation shined most. With Rogi, JC, Marat, Aggssi in 04 (3 out of 4) and Marat, Lleyton, Rogi, Roddick in 05 (4 of them all). I started watching tennis when I was little. I never considered myself a fan of any player until I watched Marat in Hopman Cup 04. Somehow, I found the game of New Balls Generation players most intriguing to me. As they gradually drop the ranking and become "veterans", I can't help but feel sad. I know I maybe biased. I couldn't possibly love old serve and volley kinda game nor can I truly embrace current tennis games which relies a lot upon power and muscle and has become hard and cruel for "old" players. Sorry I just feel like venting. I try to imagine what tennis is to me as they are retired and I feel relieved. I won't get nervous or frustrated if I miss one god-d**m match. It'll be like when I was a kid-watch, enjoy and forget. No strong feelings attached. Just like that. Ah, well, I won't really know until then. Now I can only cross my fingers that they hang around as long as possible. For folks interested in New Balls Generation, here is an interesting site with all stats and info. The ATP tried to revive the campaign in 2007, with Rafael Nadal, Marcos Baghdatis, Tomas Berdych, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Richard Gasquet, Nicolas Almagro , Stanislas Wawrinka and Gael Monfils: www.atptennis.com/en/news/2007/newballs_lequipe.aspIt wasn't as big a success as the original one, though. I used on of the old posters as desktop for a long time, they were just classic! They even made a commercial back then: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFtWrU6-J4ASorry, bad quality...

I used on of the old posters as desktop for a long time, they were just classic! Ah, memories ... I even printed the ad out and had it hung up somewhere LOL -- probably still have it somewhere with all my pack-rat stuff I (think I) want to save (need to go through all that stuff again ) ;D it's really little -- haven't found a larger size of it

New Balls Generation The GSs that I like most are AO 04 and AO 05. Absolutely! Was lucky enought to witness both live. ;D Danke Annette for all the pics... ;D ;D Love ur " CEO of the "Grass is for Cows" Campaign" stuff ;D Marat is still actively playing, and still make head line for anything practically, big things or small things lol....(evenwhen his ranking went rock low, he is still has his charisma, his charming personality and publicity.) ---journalists seems love him very much. Not to mention how much attention he got when he reaches SF for Wimby (well, in contrast, Igor Andreev reached SF for RG last yr, Marat had more publicity than Igor, for sure)...remember a male friend said " how can u be a living person and dont like Marat?" ..... JCF is no long media's favorite, he doesn;t have the attention that he used to enjoy, i think. Roger is world number one, no reason that journalist should ignor him... and no comments on Roddick, simply i wont read anything about him, no interests. As for Hewitt, apart from Aussie channel 7 commonators still (in a very silly sense) believe he can win all GSs LMAO none really cares about him now, and this man talks trash and he and his wife have more photo shoots for woman's magazine than tennis now.... never liked him Somehow, i believe (in a sense) Tommy Haas and David Nalbandian once/or still belong to that generation... again, Haas has a long battle of injury, and Nalby is no longer as solid as he used to be. Most of all, I am Marat's fan and I think my life and life style would be different without him (hehe to get up 3am in the morning to watch tennis) I am pround to be Marat's fan, ( i dont how it feels to follow other players), i would seriously cry if he lost a game or dancing like a 3 yrs old when he has great wons. The amount of emotional shifts has never ever happened in my llife.....

Davis thanks very much for all the New Balls Posters, the ones with Marat are classic (sorry if I go a tad off-topic here...) I too agree with pixie that Marat is still one of the only active players gaining publicity thorughout the world through his career with his power and form of play, his matches and his overall personality.. he is/was probably one of the best candidates for the campaign, and although breakthrough players are coming thorugh all the time (Rafa, Gasquet, Djokovic and to an extent Bagdatis as seen in the recent campaign last year) most of the players in Marats campaign are either retired, not heard of by the media or in such bad form its a wonder why some of them got there in the first place.. however I still think Haas is a powerful but unpredicatable player who can be dangerous to anyone when in form, Nalbandian isnt a very interesting person to watch play tennis and his poor form dosnt help either.. and Andy Roddick is extremley over-rated and boring.. I dread when some of our current greats eventually retire or are in such bad shape they should consider it, we need another campaign like the one with Marat to be just as successful in reliving a new generation of tennis players.. Tennis here in Australia is down the drain and not up there as one of our most popular sports.. like league or soccer. I only started playing after I became a Marat fan when I watched him play in the Kooyong Classic before AO this year.. but in ATP standings there are what 2 Aussies in the Top 100, and I am no-way a fan of that unsportsmanlike, irritating Hewitt who 'believes' along with other officials that he can ressurect his career and have a serious chance at winning or coming close to a GS win... Sorry for the random rant but Its so sad to think that such a great sport which offers so much to people like us is suffering and that players are quickly on there way out... P.S Pixie I understand when you talk about the Emotional shifts with Marat.. I am so glad to be a fan of his and the emotional roller-coaster ride you experience when watching him play.. when he beat Djocovic in Wimbles I was going absolutely crazy.. I was so happy to see him in good form, and for him to be happy with how he is playing.. ;D

two other piccies (they were from Annette ) not exactly the same members of New Balls promo, but they belong to that generation, I guess. It's so true that a fascinating character like Marat has alot to do with the success for New Balls promo. So far, I still can't find any one that matches his charisma, charm and influence. And I doubt there will be one just as powerful (hope I am wrong on this "prediction" ). Who would always draw people and media's attention despite his ranking fluctuates and often sidelined from the circuit due to injuries for an extended period of time? I reckon Goran was sort of like that, yet not as much. Djokovic is incredibly talented, entertaining and possesses such great athleticism and a dynamic game that I appreciate enormously. He also enjoys interacting with fans and has established a good rapport with them off-court. Smart, sharp, a sensational sense of observation and good at making people laugh sometimes (well, not to me though, only the first few times of watching his impersonations).......But I still don't think he is the case. He never "struck" me at all. Maybe it's just me. EXACTLY, Pixie !!

Wow, this is amazing... Being a very new tennis fan, I've seen the new campaign, but had no idea about this original one... I think the players in the old campaign had more personality than the ones in the new... Rafa excluded... ;D That said, thank y'all who have posted pictures and scans and the vid too...
