I also think you have to take the fact that Andy won a title on greenclay (i think) in houston where there is not as strong a field as in Europe or South America. As u say he needs to win in Europe, to prove himself, maybe next year playing at Halle instead of Queens, play the SA clay court season instead of US tournies. I think he needs to show the tennis world how truly good he is as he has many doubters

I though that Ily, but I think I read somewhere that the clay of that tourny is specially taken from France... (no, I`m not joking...) But I agree that Houston´s field is not as strong as E or SA.

i don't think that roger won indoors on carpet and hardcourt, did he? i don't know. i had the stats somewhere but i can't find them in the mess that is my computer... Yes he did . He won Rotterdam (indoor hard) in February (many outdoor hard tournaments, at least Hamburg on clay and at least Halle and Wimbledon on grass) i don't know, it kinda irks me how all the us media put so much pressure on him and say that he has let down us tennis and that he has underachieved because he isn't federer. i mean, he is what? 23? GIVE HIM A BREAK! That`s ridiculous... he goes pretty well here in aus. he would have won kooyong but, you know, roger. and he has won queens for the past few years. and he just won lyon. not so bad... I know...., but even before THIS Roger appeared (till Andy´s USOpen), most of his titles were US titles... I still think he should improve his performance outside the US... sorry. i just re-read my post...i don't mean to be so grouchy. Don´t worry that happends to me too

Ljubicic sees off injured Roddick Latest results Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic reached his second successive Masters Series final with victory over an injured Andy Roddick in Paris on Saturday. The sixth seed, who lost to Rafael Nadal in Madrid two weeks ago, won 6-3 7-5 and will face Tomas Berdych, who beat Radek Stepanek, in the final. Top seed Roddick injured his back in beating David Ferrer on Friday. And the struggling American twice had on-court treatment as he went down to Ljubicic in just 64 minutes. A jubilant Ljubicic said: "It's the best performance of my life. I thought I could play well but not this well." I have always won pretty comfortably (against Berdych) - but he's a dangerous player, there's no question Ivan Ljubicic Roddick - who lost his opening service game, as he did against David Ferrer in the quarter-finals - was also broken in the 11th game. And he admitted that Ljubicic's serve, which produced 15 aces, had been difficult to read. "You can't really get a good read on it," he said. "It's similar to Goran's (Ivanisevic) in the way he can hit different serves from different tosses." The American added that his back and shoulder problems had gradually worsened during the match. "I woke up and felt okay, but as soon as I started moving it really stiffened up. After a couple of games I didn't feel so good about my chances." It's important to play my own tennis against Ivan - I don't know if there any special tactics to beat him Tomas Berdych The 20-year-old Berdych, who will be chasing his second career title after winning on clay in Palermo last year, came through an all-Czech semi-final when he outlasted the eighth-seeded Stepanek 6-1 3-6 6-3. Ljubicic has a 2-0 record against Berdych and is confident of victory. "There are not many guys in better form than me right now," Ljubicic said. "I have always won pretty comfortably (against Berdych). But he's a dangerous player, there's no question." Berdych called reaching the final the best achievement of his career so far. "It's my first time in the final of a big tournament," he said. "It's important to play my own tennis against Ivan. I don't know if there any special tactics to beat him." So now that Marat´s not at Shanghai, I´m with Andy, good luck I totally agree, always been a fan of Andy as well , but is he coming to Shanghai or is he joining Marat? www.sportinglife.com/tennis/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=international_feed/05/11/05/TENNIS_Fra-Paris__Nightlead.htmlAILING RODDICK ROUTED BY LJUBICIC Top seed Andy Roddick admitted his back problems could force him to pull out of the Masters Cup in Shanghai after suffering a straight-sets elimination in the Paris Masters semi-finals at the hands of Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic on Saturday afternoon. The 23-year-old American, who has been suffering from an injury in the lower part of his back since his match against Spain's David Ferrer on Friday, was defeated 6-3 7-5 in just over one hour and never looked capable of winning on Bercy's centre court. "When I woke up this morning, I was fine, I was walking around and felt better than I thought I would," said Roddick, the world number three, during his post-match press conference. "I felt okay but when I got out there, as soon as I moved I felt very stiff. It was tough. "The pain was similar to yesterday's and after a couple of games I did not feel too good about my chances." When asked whether he felt capable of playing in the Masters from November 13-20, he was hesitant. "I hope I will be able to go there," he added. "Obviously I am not as optimistic as I was two days ago. "I will have my injury evaluated again here and back home. I will treat it and if I feel capable to go to Shanghai I will, if not, I won't." Roddick is the latest victim of a series of injuries which has hit the top world players ahead of the last Masters Series event of the year in Paris. World number one Roger Federer (ankle), Andre Agassi (back), reigning champion Marat Safin (knee), Rafael Nadal (knee) and Lleyton Hewitt (groin and foot) all pulled out before the tournament. But Roddick, who won the ATP Tour event in Lyon last Sunday, insists he does not regret coming to Paris. "I am happy as a whole because I played well in Lyon and Paris," he added. "This injury is unfortunate but you can not not play a tournament because you fear you might get injured."Getting slightly worried...is another withdrawal on the way?

nah. if he can play the match after he got injured and see it out then a few weeks intensive treatment and rest should be able to get him into tmc. besides he's a bit of a fighter. there is too much at stake, his pride and a LOT of prizemoney. it is certainly worth going and having a go...

Roddick's Charity Weekend Raises $1.5 Million
Lionel Richie kicked off the Fifth Annual Andy Roddick Charity Dream Weekend with a concert at the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Fla. last weekend. Richie, a five-time Grammy Award winner, rocked a full house of fans in order to help tennis inspiration Andy Roddick raise money for many children’s charities in South Florida.
Even though Richie and Roddick did not have to resort to “Dancing on the Ceiling” to help raise over $1.5 million in 2005 for the Foundation, there were many dancing in the aisles at the concert including Roddick.
“Lionel was an awesome performer and everyone had a blast at the concert,” stated Roddick. “We are very gracious that Lionel Richie was able to perform for our cause and incorporate music into the charity weekend.”
Following Richie’s charity concert, a Dinner Gala took place on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Polo Club Boca Raton that was certainly “A Night to Remember.” Many guests dined amongst tennis stars Venus Williams and Jim Courier in addition to Roddick, and afterwards got a chance to show them their moves on the dance floor. Some of the top selling auction item packages at the Dinner Gala included $30,000 for a one hour tennis session with Andre Agassi, $20,000 for an evening with Andy Roddick, and over $20,000 for two tickets to the Oscar Party in Los Angeles.
“I was a little apprehensive about our turn out this year due to the hurricanes that greatly affected South Florida,” noted Blanche Roddick – chairman of the Foundation, “and was amazed at the generosity of our supporters after everything they have been through. Thank you to everyone who was involved and made this a great weekend.”
Sunday’s Tennis Extravaganza on Dec. 11 began with a free Kids' Zone to all children under 12 and included tennis games sponsored by USA Tennis Florida. Later in the day, a tennis exhibition took place with top pros Venus Williams, Sebastian Grosjean, Brenda Schultz, Aaron Krickstein, and special guest Grand Slam champion Jim Courier. Some fans watched the tennis exhibition in seats that were only a few feet away from the players, and others got the opportunity to return Roddick’s world record fastest-serve (clocked at 154 mph). Roddick ended the charity weekend by personally meeting, and spending time, with some of his biggest special needs fans in the players lounge
Celebrities who attended the charity weekend events included 2005 Miss America Deidre Downs, 2002 Olympic Gold medalist Sarah Hughes, and 2005 Andy Roddick Foundation Distinguished Honoree Brian Edwards. Andre Agassi, who was supposed to participate in Sunday’s tennis exhibition, was unable to attend this year due to an injury. Although Agassi could not be apart of the tennis action, he paid for the private airfare of Jim Courier to take his place. Agassi also committed to attending the Foundation’s tennis exhibition for the next two years, and kindly made a $75,000 donation.

GO ANDY!!!!!!!!!!!! GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MELBOURNE, Australia - Andy Roddick looks at a tennis calendar that never seems to end and the list of injuries that keeps growing. He suspects it’s time to take action. He wants players to form a union and send a message to those who run the sport. “It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out why people are getting hurt,” Roddick said Wednesday.
