French number one Gasquet splits with coach sports.yahoo.com/ten/news;_ylt=Aoxd4AtdRMcbzpIg9BvIKNU4v7YF?slug=reu-gasquetcoach&prov=reuters&type=lgnsPARIS, May 18 (Reuters) - Richard Gasquet parted company with coach Eric Deblicker one week before the start of the French Open, the French number one said on Sunday. “Eric remains my friend and the one who helped me into the top 10,” Gasquet, who has won 10 matches and lost nine this year, said in a statement. The 22-year-old Gasquet was knocked out in his first match at the Hamburg Masters earlier this week and was beaten in his first-round match at the Rome Masters. Gasquet will now be coached by Guillaume Peyre along with Nicolas Mahut within Team Lagardere, the players’ management company.

Richie is in Paris with his new coach, preparing for Roland Garros. Guillaume Peyre used to coach Marcos Baghdatis, so I guess he knows what he's doing. Funny enough, Anna and I saw him in Hamburg and wondered what he was doing there - or rather with whom he was there.

Most people on this site know that I am basically nuts about Marat and have been posting Fan Fiction featuring Marat (called Vienna Waltz) for quite some time - up to Chapter 102 currently. All can be accessed by clicking the homepage icon on my profile on this site. Have fun reading it and please comment if you like it.

Now this is some surprising news.... Gasquet in cocaine shockFrench tennis star Richard Gasquet tested positive for cocaine after the Miami Masters, according to L'Equipe.French number four Gasquet, 22, was reported to have shown traces of the drug in his A sample taken at the event in late March. He can request that a B sample is tested to verify the result. The maximum ban for recreational or performance-enhancing drug use is two years. Gasquet reached a career-high world ranking of seventh in 2007 but his form has since slipped and he is now back in 23rd place. uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/09052009/58/atp-tour-gasquet-cocaine-shock.html

Absolutely unbelievable news that will shock the tennis world.
As of yet i believe Gasquet and his management company have not responded.
Surely its not another L,Equipe lie and if it is true then the boy is a Class A fool!

I must admit I wondered if l'equipe were up to their usual tricks. In a way I hope so. If not - and he has taken stuff - then I garee Class A fool. My mum siummed it up neatly when I told her the rumours. She shook her head and said "Silly boy!"

Dear oh dear if it's true. What a wasted talent. If he's out of the game for two years, I doubt he'd have the mental strength to come back.
I remember 4 years ago when I was having the horrendous time with a sinus infection and lost my hearing, I was lying on the sofa, usually sobbing my eyes out, watching the clay court season unfold - tennis, as ever, was my release. Rafa and Richie were just making their mark. I thought Richie was the better player - lovely touch, better mover and more flair in his technique. I expected him to be the future number one, not Rafa by any stretch of my imagination. There ye go ...
Richie has always been the 'if only ...' for me in the last few years. He has such a natural flair for the game ... and if it's true, he's now blown it, big time. Particularly when he seemed to be getting his brain matched up with his hands again.
A troubled young man in many ways if you ask me. He has never seemed happy 'in his skin' if you know what I mean. I hope he can bounce back from this, tennis aside.

Nice comments Mary - thoughtful and incisive as ever. Brought tears to my eyes. If (and at the moment I still hope it's an if) he has to drop out for two years I think you could be right - he will find it so hard to come back.
