What is with the top seeds injury, Rafa may even miss his home tournament, i think he should not re=isk anything with the Masters cup coming up
INJURY CONCERN FOR NADAL
Top seed Rafael Nadal could be forced to miss this week's Madrid Masters with a knee injury.
The Spaniard, who received a bye into Wednesday's second round, has been diagnosed with tendinitis in his knee and could join a long list of absentees at the big ATP event.
Roger Federer, Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt and Marat Safin have all been forced to miss the tournament through injury and the loss of crowd-pleaser Nadal would be a huge blow to organisers.
"I've been training for a couple of days and the knee is still hurting," said Nadal. "I've had a scan done and it shows that I've got acute tendinitis."
The world number two withdrew from last week's event in Vienna in an attempt to be fit to play in front of his home fans.

what great news for British fans
Nadal Shows Grass-Court Intent; Commits to Stella Artois French Open champion Rafael Nadal has signalled his intention to master the art of grass court tennis by committing to play at the Stella Artois Championships for the next two years.
Nadal, the winner of 10 titles already this year, eight of which were won on clay, has never previously entered the Stella Artois Championships, which will be played next year at the Queen's Club between the 12 and 18th of June.
Despite the enormous success enjoyed by the 19-year-old Mallorcan in 2005, he lost at the second round stage at Wimbledon, and now plans to use the Stella Artois to test himself against many of the world's best grass-court exponents.
Tournament Director Ian Wight was delighted to secure Nadal's participation.
"I'm thrilled that Rafael has committed himself to The Stella Artois for the next two years," said Wight.
"His desire to be a winner on every surface makes him one of the most exciting players of this and future generations."
Jim Courier, a two-time French Open champion who also reached the Wimbledon final, believes Nadal has got what it takes to be successful on the surface.
"His game may not be obviously adaptable to grass, but his attitude is," said Courier.
"He is firmly committed to it, and as the grass courts have firmed up it's given the groundstrokers an ability to compete."

KNEES UP FOR NADAL
Rafael Nadal has chosen more sober attire than usual for his return to Spain at the Madrid Masters.
The 19-year-old has cut a swathe through the higher echelons of the men's game in 2005, all the time wearing three-quarter length trousers he calls 'piratas'.
But maybe aware that friends and family are probably watching, he has gone for a traditional look in the Spanish capital.
The muscle vest he wore at the US Open is gone and in come knee-length shorts.
"I just wanted to see how the shorts felt again," he said. "I like them. Just a change, nothing permanent.
"The piratas will be back in Australia (in January)."

Nadal hits back for Madrid title
World number two Rafael Nadal produced a stunning fightback from two sets down to defeat Ivan Ljubicic 3-6 2-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 and win the Madrid Masters title. The 19-year-old looked set to disappoint his home crowd as he struggled to match his Croatian rival.
But he turned his game around in the third set in front of 10,000 spectators in the Spanish capital.
He eventually clinched the fourth Masters title of his career when he took the final-set tie-break 7-3.
"It was an incredibly difficult victory," an ecstatic Nadal said afterwards.
"The only reason why I can explain that I managed to turn the game around was the support of the fans here in Madrid.
"They have 80% of the responsibility for the victory."
Nadal's victory wrapped up his 11th ATP title of the season, which only world number one Roger Federer has matched in 2005.
The pair have also won all eight of this year's Masters Series events between them.
