What a shocker!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Well done Smurfy DAVIDOFF SWISS INDOORS Basel, Switzerland October 29, 2006 Federer Clinches 11th Title of 2006 Roger Federer typically lives life in the fast lane, but it took the ATP World No. 1 seven attempts - including three finals - to win his hometown title in Basel. In Sunday's final of the Davidoff Swiss Indoors, Federer defeated Fernando Gonzalez 6-3, 6-2, 7-6(3), repeating his straight-sets win over the Chilean in last week Madrid Masters final. For the third consecutive year Federer captured his 11th title of the season - he is the only player in the Open Era to win 10 titles or more in a season for three consecutive years. He extended his winning streak to 24 matches and moved to a personal-best 87-5 match record on the year. The Swiss long ago was declared winner of the INDESIT ATP 2006 Race and improved his record Race points haul to 1,524 points. Federer won his ninth consecutive tie-break to close out the match. In the semifinals he defeated Paradorn Srichaphan 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5) and in the quarterfinals he defeated fifth seed David Ferrer 6-3, 7-6(14), ending the match with a 30-point tie-break. Federer has now played 603 career matches, winning 478 of them, or 79 percent. His match record from 1998-2003 was 236-110 (.683) with 11 titles, but over the past three years he is 242-15 (.941) with 33 titles. Federer's current 24-match winning streak is his fifth streak of at least 20 wins (see chart below). Basel marks his fourth tournament victory in a row and his 11 titles on the year is more than double that won by James Blake and Rafael Nadal, who are tied for second with five. Gonzalez boosted his chances of qualifying for Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai by reaching the final, moving to No. 9 in the INDESIT ATP 2006 Race and pulling to within eight points of No. 8 Tommy Robredo and nine points of No. 7 James Blake. (Gonzalez leads No. 10 Mario Ancic by 15 points.)

Federer Makes People's Sexiest ListOn the eve of his final round robin match at Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai, it has been revealed that ATP World No. 1 Roger Federer will be part of “People” magazine’s popular “Sexiest Man Alive” issue. Roger Federer, the winner of three Grand Slam titles in 2006 and the No. 1 player in the world for more than two years, is included in the issue in a section of the magazine devoted to “Sexy Surroundings.” The 25-year-old Federer shows off Basel, Switzerland, the town where he first got involved with tennis as a ball boy at the city’s ATP event. Federer won that tournament for the first time just last month. The “Sexiest Man Alive” issue of “People” hits streets in the U.S. on Friday, Nov. 17. Federer must win his round robin match against Ivan Ljubicic Thursday to be guaranteed of making the Masters Cup semifinals. from masters cup site: www.masters-cup.com/1/news/stories/people.asp

I cannot believe this... Marat is sooooooo much sexier than Roger! It's ridiculous!!!! I wa checking out People's website today and checking on some sexy guys that made the list. I thought with myself: Marat should be on that list. There was a link to say what the readers think about the list but I couldn't open it. If I could, I would have complained about Marat's absence on this list. Anyway...Roger shouldn't be there

Federer gets down to business January 03, 2007 12:00am
SWISS superstar Roger Federer flew into Melbourne today and headed straight to Rod Laver Arena to acclimatise for his Australian Open defence.
The world No.1 - a winner of three grand slam titles last year, including his second Australian Open crown - practised with his girlfriend, former professional Mirka Vavrinec.
His trademark sweetly-timed groundstrokes looked as crisp as ever during the relaxed 30-minute session.
It was a surprisingly early arrival in Melbourne by Federer, with most of the world's top players competing in events elsewhere in the nation, or around the world.
Federer bypassed the lucrative Doha ATP event, which he won for the past two years, to be here well in advance of the Open, which begins on January 15.
He has already spent 10 days practising with his Australian coach Tony Roche in Dubai in mid-December as he sets his sights on a 10th grand slam title.
His preparation will take another step when he competes in the Kooyong Classic round-robin event here next week.
Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley was among those watching Federer's practice session today.
"It's great to have Roger here early and obviously he's excited to be back in Melbourne," Tiley said.
"I just had a conversation with him and he loves Melbourne, loves this event and he's very excited about being here again."
Tiley said the tournament was expected to have the strongest field in its history, although women's world No.16 Russian Anastasia Myskina today withdrew with a foot injury.
Tiley said the final wildcard recipients were yet to be decided, with Mark Philippoussis' knee injury opening the door to another Australian.
"We'll make an assessment of the players' performances this week," Tiley said.
"We've got events going on in Adelaide right now and Sydney coming up as well as Hobart coming up and the Gold Coast this week.
"We'll make an assessment nearer the time and hopefully make an announcement in the next several days about the remaining wildcards."
