Molik rests with family 19 july 2005
WORLD No. 11 Alicia Molik will rest in Adelaide until probably the end of next week before resuming a gradual comeback to competitive tennis.
Molik - who is battling vestibular neuronitis, which affects the inner ear and causes persistent dizziness - has been following doctors' orders by keeping a low profile at home with her family for the past fortnight.
The condition, brought on by a virus, scuttled Molik's French Open and Wimbledon plans this year but the vibrant serve-volleyer says she's enjoying being with family during the enforced break.
"I'm fine," Molik said from her family home. "I won't be doing any media or anything much while I'm here."
Her agent, Lisa Chaffey, said Molik had had an occasional low-intensity hit-up in Adelaide but rest was the only cure for her condition. Once recovered, doctors predict she should not again be bothered by dizziness, Chaffey said.
"If anything good has come out of this it's that Alicia's been able to spent time with family which, as a professional tennis player, is not always possible," Chaffey said.
"Rest is the only thing that's going to get her back playing matches. We're not putting a time line on when she'll be back playing tournaments."

Also heard about that rumour, that she´s taking a babybreak, which would explain her long time off, but I only heard about it in another tennisforum, from someone who has heard it in another tennisforum So it´s just a rumour, that maybe just came up, because pple are speculating for the reasons for her long break. No official source

she ius taking a long break b/c sometimes when you get a really bad inner ear infection you can' do things like look up or even sit up without having major dizzy spells. you know how if you get a waterlogged ear or a small ear infection it puts off your balance just a little, well vertigo is a serious inner ear infection that meansyour body can't always straighten and balance itself properly. some people (i think the stat is 20%) never recover fully, always getting dizziness and can have normal lives but just sometimes lose thier balance a bit, very hard for a tennis player. the infection just leaves permanant damage in these cases. the aussie press would be over this like a rash cos she is our 'golden girl' in tennis. and she has been at public events and had interviews and stuff and it hasn't come up.
she is not going to come back for about 15months, if she can get back to playing elite tennis at all. hence the long break...
