opening ceremonies were awesome! very cool stuff they did -- amazing ... and the story about the little boy that got to walk with Yao Ming is about the best story I've heard in a long time was able to spot on the TV: Novak, Ana, Zimonjic, Lindsay, Bob & Mike, James talking to Mark Knowles, Rafa, Almagro, Nieminen (and Gonzo and Fed carrying country flags) ;D

GUTTED that Andy lost!! but to be honest, not surprised, he just didn't seem to be there Murray crashes out of Beijing
Sixth seed Andy Murray of Britain was upset 7-6 6-4 by Lu Yen-Hsun of Taiwan in the first round of the Olympic Games.
The Scotsman joined fellow seed Spaniard David Ferrer, the fifth-ranked player who suffered a 7-6 6-2 loss to Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic, in exiting the tournament which carries ATP ranking points.
Murray, who picked up his first Masters Series title in Cincinnati this month, lost the first set against the hard-working Taiwanese player ranked 77th in the world, despite having led 5-2.
Lu challenged on set point of the tie-break, but the Hawkeye system broke down and umpire Enric Molina of Spain confirmed a Murray double-fault.
Murray, who looked increasingly uncomfortable, had three break points at 4-4 in the second set but the Taiwanese player crucially held serve.
Lu then broke Murray, winning with his first match point.
Murray's hopes of an Olympic medal remain alive in the doubles, however, where he and his brother Jamie are due to face Daniel Nestor and Frederic Niemeyer in the first round.
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer took their first steps towards Olympic gold with contrasting victories in the men's singles.
Top seed Federer mocked those already dismissing him as yesterday's man with a classy 6-4 6-2 defeat of Russian Dmitry Tursunov but Spain's Nadal dropped a set to Italy's Potito Starace for the first time before winning 6-2 3-6 6-2.
"Sometimes it plays a trick in your mind where you think maybe you're not playing that well, but it's actually not the case," Federer said, clearly relieved to be up and running at the tournament after a difficult five weeks.
"I played well, hit some great winners, got some good balls back. I was playing very solid."
Nadal, who will replace Federer as world number one next Monday, opened proceedings on Centre Court clad in the red and yellow of his national flag as Prince Felipe of Spain looked on.
After rattling through the first set with some flashing winners he was pegged back when Starace took the second set with some resilient tennis of his own.
Nadal had the crowd gasping with one incredible pick-up from a Starace drop shot early in the decider as he regained his momentum. A dispirited Starace dumped a drop shot into the net to hand Nadal his first victory in Olympic tennis.
Sunday's rain allowed just nine completed results and organisers crammed 65 matches in to Monday's manic order of play meaning a feast of action at the nine-court tennis complex.
Nicolas Massu, the surprise gold medallist in singles and doubles four years ago in Athens, beat Belgium's Steve Darcis 6-4 7-5.
In the women's singles, American Serena Williams wasted little time reaching the women's second round, polishing off Olga Govortsova 6-3 6-1 in a match interrupted on Sunday.
Williams, however, seemed annoyed with her schedule.
"I felt like I should have had today off but it was good practice," she said. "I wanted to go to the market today but we have to play so many matches."
Williams was joined in the second round by French Open runner-up Dinara Safina, one of four Russian medal prospects in the singles.
Australia's Lleyton Hewitt, the former world number one, beat Swedish veteran Jonas Bjorkman 7-5 7-6 to set up a second round tie with Nadal. Although I do suppost Dima, was nice to see Roger win so solidly, hopefully China will give him some luck! Looking forward to Rafa vs Lleyton!! that should be good!

Hadn't realised we had an Olympic thread! I would have posted my comments on Maestro wrapping the flag around his barnet on opening day. ;D And what an opening day! Match that London - no chance, are my thoughts. It was so clever - well thought out on the visuals and the concept behind the sequences. Amazing. Congrats Bejing. The best opening ceremony I have ever seen. (Loved the drums and the fireworks leading up to the stadium ... and the wee boy who survived the earthquake, sniff, sniff ...) Just caught up on the results. Andy lost in the first round. BLEEP BLEEP. At least he won his doubles with Jamie - would be great if they got a medal together. Sibling rivalry and all that ... probably nicer for the Murray family if the medal is for the doubles ...
