After this years tennis which i am happy to say has been dominated by russian tennis (Unfortuantely not so much Dinara) with three ladys to win a grand slam in this year.Myskina-French ,Sharapova-Wimbledon and Kuznetsova/Dimetieva-US Open and many other title. It has made me think what is Russia's strongest FED CUP team please can you reply back with your opinons.

Well, I think you're right. Russia has so many good players that even if one of the top players wouln't be able to play in FED CUP, they can replace her with other good player. Other countries don't have such possibilites.

Russia is the strongest considering the fact that it's top players all play on the team. US can have a strong squad too, but the top players hardly ever play. And USA is the only country that has the same number of top players as Russia...

True Russia do have a strong squad along with the Amercians but they do not lack the depth that the Russians do. But i stiil can not pick a team of 4 and 1 back up player with out leaving anyone good. On the other hand the harder the decisions the better the forums.

But i stiil can not pick a team of 4 and 1 back up player with out leaving anyone good. it's really hard. i can't do it either. But that's very positive because the team can win against any other team even if their top players are absent. but i guess it would be hard for those who have the lowest rankings today (including Dina) to join the team if girls like Myskina, Dementieva and Sharapova keep their game to that level. big competition!

In my opinion, this is the best Russian womens team ever and it's going to be tough for other teams from different countries to beat them, if all the girls play to the best of their ability and keep up their great stamina and game.

Well i am still thinking hard about this decision but what do u think of Dina do u think she will break the top 10/20 next year and possibly a grand slam out of no where.
My provisional team of 4
Ana Myskina - Singles, Maria Sharapova - Singles, Svetlana Kuznetsova & Nidia Petrova - Doubles Elena Dimentiava - back up.

quote from tennis-X.com:
Russian tennis chief Shamil Tarpishchev has made some shaky Davis Cup decisions for Russia over the past year, but you have to give the totalitarian tennis ruler props for last year predicting a Russian would win Wimbledon in 2004. Tarpishchev, who also coaches the Russian Fed Cup team, has such a deep squad that he bypassed Maria Sharapova and Elena Dementieva for the Fed Cup semis later this year. "What you've seen is nothing compared to what you might expect in the near future," Tarpishchev boasted after Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova won the US Open. "Everyone knows our top players by now, but there's the next wave: (Vera) Douchevina, (Anna) Chakvetadze and (Maria) Kirilenko just to name a few. Success breeds confidence and these girls are very hungry to follow in the steps of (Anastasia) Myskina, Dementieva and others. But then, we have a large group of even younger players -- 15 or 16-year-olds. We had nine junior girls at this year's Wimbledon and six at the US Open. You may not know their names just yet but believe me, you'll know them in a couple of years from now." Talk about saturating the market...

I agree Tarpischev is an idiot But how on earth is he in charge of a leading Fed Cup team and a promising Davis cup team.

Totally agree with everything said above.
Me being Russian and following our tennis closely I think this is the best women's team we ever had. All girls are really dedicated and Nastya Myskina is just great.
So go girls!!!!!!!!!!
