Well the only thing he can decide upon right now is whether he wants to enter the qualifications, that;s about it. The wild card but be given or it might not be, because if it's not - he is out since his ranking is way below entry ranking right now

I think it's a wise thing to do actually if he wants more match practice before big tournaments on clay. Good luck big guy

Update news!

Following many dropouts from the main draw (Gasquet, Tsonga, Berdych, Simon, Querrey, Koubek), the tourney directors decided to give Marat a WC, so no need for qualies.

Interesting turn of developments for Marat Safin but i suppose if you lose all those names you can really afford to lose another superstart potentially in the qualifying so get him into Main Draw.

I think Marat could have got a better section of the draw - mind you with Marat, Haas and Gonzo in that section they could all win or all lose. Alot depends on form but would like to see how Marat fares against these guys!

Marat has never played Berlocq and should win but i suppose you would never rule out an Argentine on Clay.
