I think Tarpischev should really stop making comments about this until he talks to Marat and the latter makes a final decision. I am sick and tired of these speculations Amen to this!!!!!! I mean, Tarpi really should STFU!!! Marat knows what he's feeling, and if he feels he's not ready or not "good" enough to play the DC final, let the boy get a good rest for (my vision) his most important year in his carreer!!!!!

Hi - I have no news at all. At this time of the year many tournaments put their bid in for players and a lot of decisions are made about the schedule for next year as the year ends. The only thig that I know is that at this stage Marat will start at Kooyong in Australia. Nothing more has been said about pre-season in Argentina - it was talked about but nothing is confirmed as yet. So we will have to wait and see webby

Just a general question, but does anyone remember when Marat announced his schedule for 2007? I was thinking it was about now but perhaps not. I think he's due to start practising again in Valencia about now so I guess he'll be getting together with Gumy to discuss it.

According to the OS, Marat is off to Valencia tomorrow to start two weeks training in the mountains and will start practising on 25th Nov. That would suggest he definitely will not be going to Portland for the DC Final - shame but probably a sensible decision. Still, it could all change tomorrow

From the OS: 11 November 2007
"Marat has been enjoying his time at home in Moscow and has really rested his wrist by not picking up a racquet during this time. He is set to fly to Valencia on Sunday 11th November where he will meet up with his coach Hernan Gumy. He starts with 2 weeks of fitness in the mountains with Miguel Maseo and then will start tennis practice on the 25th."
Romano Grillotti retired as an umpire during October after 27 years. Marat and Romano had a very up and down time on court but essentially think they remained friends! Do you think this incident in Moscow at the Kremlin Cup was Marat's way of saying goodbye Romano!!!!
ps:What happened btw Marat and Romano in Moscow?(again!)
ps2: Missin' ya Romano!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the official website 26 November 2007"Marat has now finished his fitness training in the mountains and will start his tennis practice from today in Valencia. Hernan Gumy arrived yesterday in Valencia and brought with him a new hitting partner for Marat - Guillermo Coria's younger brother who is 17 and a promising junior player. At this time Marat has not made any decisions with regards to his schedule for the first half of 2008 past the Kooyong Exhibition and the Australian Open. This will be discussed this week in Valencia and as soon as details are available will be posted in the Schedule section."

Great report !! Good to see Marat working hard with Gumy and Maeso. Lucky Alex, get to see Marat practice and chat with him personally. I am sure Marat was as nice as he has always been to fans. (Just wondering, the tennis academy is open to the public ?)

Some more news from the officia website ;D 3rd December 2007Practice has been going very well in Valencia and Marat and Hernan Gumy are pleased with the progress. The relationship of coach and player is progressing well. Marat's fitness training went well and he has lost 5 Kgs. He is slimmer, trimmer and raring to go. As was seen in the photos that Alexandra Kindly provided from Valencia,(see her article Marat in Valencia preparing for 2008) Marat has changed racquets and is using the new Microgel Prestige which should be on general sale from January 2008. Marat is very very happy with this new racquet as it has a very similar feeling to the Prestige Finesse he used in 2000 and had so many good results with. It feels good to use. He and Hernan are so pleased with the way practice has gone that they have decided that Marat needs some competitive matches before going to Australia to begin the new season. Marat will be at the Tennis Trophy at St Anton am Arlberg from 10 - 15 December. The actual exhibition runs from 12 - 15 December. It is called the "The greatest Tennis Party of the World" and there are both male and female participants. St Anton is a well know winter sports area particularly for skiing and they have for 20 years combined this with a tennis exhibition for men and women at this time of the year. Last year Novak Djokovic was there. As there has also been a lot of snow lately in the area, Marat is looking forward to trying snowboarding - now that he is lighter he feels he can do it! He is already a very good skier so this is something else he would like to try in wintersports. Apart from the tennis that is. This tournament is held indoors and will be a good preparation towards starting the year in Australia. Link to the Tournament Website is www.tennistrophy.netThe site is only available in German. Marat will travel to Melbourne Australia on 3rd January 2008.
