at least the girls got to see him, the stadium was very very empty, i think the organizers messed up by putting him on so late.

Now, now ... if it was a shit win, the Big Yin will be more than aware of it. What matters is if it matters to him. Big Yin, I expect more. Get on with it you muppet. Imagine you are back on grass with your fg. I hope his harem will still extend their support for the second round. Don't give up on the boy. If you do, why should he bother? He's rusty and needs some more practice. The furry slippers are now at the back of the mental wardrobe ... His fairy godmother will sort him out if he faffs around any more.

October 7, 2008 Safin Clinches 400th Win; Davydenko Leads Russian Charge © AFP/Getty Images Nikolay DavydenkoFormer ATP World No. 1 Marat Safin claimed his 400th career win Tuesday at his hometown event, the ATP Kremlin Cup in Moscow. Safin, 28, converted just two of 10 break point opportunities against Israeli Noam Okun, but it was enough to earn a 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-4 win in 2 hr., 5 min. The match had a bizarre end when Safin broke Okun to take the match 6-4 in the third. However, Safin mistakenly thought it was 6-5, and a change over. So after securing the break, the Russian went to his chair and began to towel off. Eventually chair umpire Carlos Bernardes leaned over and informed Safin the match was over. The somewhat embarrassed Safin quickly went to the net and shared a laugh with Okun while they shook hands. Safin has not won an ATP title since claiming a second Grand Slam crown at the Australian Open in January 2005. He last reached a final two years ago, here at the Kremlin Cup. Safin failed to win consecutive matches through the first four months of the season but turned things around at Wimbledon, where he reached the semifinals (l. Federer). ATP Match Wins Leaders (active players) W-L (Pct.) Titles 1) Roger Federer 606-146 (.806) 56 2) Carlos Moya 570-308 (.649) 20 3) Lleyton Hewitt 486-161 (.751) 26 4) Fabrice Santoro 452-420 (.518) 6 5) Andy Roddick 454-144 (.759) 26 6) Tommy Haas 428-234 (.647) 11 7) Jonas Bjorkman 414-362 (.534) 6 8) Marat Safin 400-241 (.623) 15 9) Juan Carlos Ferrero 382-202 (.654) 11 10) Thomas Johansson 356-294 (.548) 9 Weird shitty way to celebrate a 400th win on the Pro Tour but still! A win is still a win whatever how shitty it was! I believe it's something to manage a victory while you play crap! it's not like when you lose when you play great.... just to point out for the zillionth time how much the naughty boy likes dramas! I'm sure if there were a way to make it a five setter.... to our great harem! stay positive ladies, and if needed so; don't be afraid to punch him right in the face; it'd only make him good! anyways the gentle and soft way is so out of fashion with him lately; he need to be brutalized!!! ;D how gross and naughty does that sound?

400th win congrats Marat - way you played may be the last one of the season i mean Okun is not ranked 500 for no reason - losing a set is a sham Next up Bennetteau from France who also beat an Israely today but in straight sets and i reckon he may do the same to Marat needs a big lift up and we mean big

And for gawd's sake, pay attention to the score! typical and priceless at the same time! it reminded me one of his matches against JC Ferrero in the French 2002 semis; he was on another dimesnion that day: he actually got broken and didn't even notice as he turned to get new balls from the ball kid behind him! he only understood that the game was over when he saw JC sitting on his bench: ah Marat Marat.... no matter how crap u play we still adore you!

LOL!!!!! That was one of the weirdest match I have seen so far. I haven't found any reason why he lost so easily. JC was very injured and couldn't serve at all. To get the business done should be a piece of cake for Marat. Somehow, I could only reckon that Marat was too distracted by JC's injury to perform normally as JC was his best friend when they were teenagers. That certainly wasn't a semi-final level of match at all. In AO 04 final, he went to the wrong side to serve. Well, he said he ran out of gas. and I think it's true. he probably ran out of brain as well. LMAO. ps despite all these, Marat managed to still look so hot in his own way with the adidas outfit in 2002 RG and 2004 AO.

just saw the last two sets; I take back the majority of what I said: the boy didn't play that bad; several nice groundstrokes, 12 aces and some good work at the net though he also lost lots of points there! and give also the credit to the opponent I really don't think he played the worst match of his career either; he was tough to handle especially that one handed backhand.... Come on hbibi; pull it together against Julien!

Miryni joins Mario in the Law Degree Club ... Bjorkman plays his final singles match in Stockholm ... Bob & Mike become temporary rock stars with the Counting Crows in Florida ... and Marat barely *cough* squeaks in win 400 -- makes for an interesting ATP news day

him not realising the score at the end makes me think marat wasnt doing much thinking at all in the match. the first set was tight, he had to keep a high concentration which is why it was inevitable that he fell asleep during the second set.

that live feed was reall good, im surprised it wa better than the usual ones too. Marat imo played terrible and his lack of match practise showed. he didnt look too happy at the end either, but then when does he? livefeed's visual quality was good, maybe the speed varies among countries. Oh, chill out, Natasha! If you watched AO 05 epic semis against Roger and the final vs Lleyton, did you notice he never looked too excited after a super big win. Hadn't I followed the matches, I would've thought he had lost the matches by judging the way he looked in the end. He doesn't fall, jump, or scream like players usually do, does he? (Are these manifestations of being a perfectionist as he always claims himself ? I mean his reactions to winning confuse me alot of times.) Ok, I am not defending for Marat on the dreadful form he displayed last night. But, he doesn't earn the title "Mr. Unpredictable" by chance. I saw him working sooooo hard in US hart court season the past 3 years and the outcomes were disastrous. I seriously doubt he did anything special on his least favorite surface and yet he reached semis to everyone's surprise to enter tennis Hall of Fame for reaching all semis providing that fact the he had tons of first round exits and his confidence was destroyed badly (I am sure including himself, especially at this advanced stage of career on grass given all the awful results of first half season). Before he won the US open 2000, he had a terrible year with lots of first round exits as well and was even fined for tanking matches. He traveled without a formal coach. Coming back from severe wrist injury to become the runner-up at AO 04, he only had a fitness trainer and his coach was Denis. I am sure he worked hard to come back every time his ranking dropped to almost 100 and he managed to eventually join the elite circuit either top 5, 32, or 40 sooner or later. Being Marat's fan is not easy. But we always get some bonus entertainment that would've never happened on other players, say, forget the scores. Either he was too exhausted or he completely tranced to his very own wonderland. I wonder he can control his concentration even if he wants to. He is as enigmatic as he has always been. I don't see anything peculiarly different. And still, I have hoped that he would bring us the amazing game he's gifted with from time to time. He is not born to be Roger nor Rafa. He is the only Marat, sigh........ It'd be boring if he wins all the time. *Sigh*, I am a pathetic masochistic As usual, davai Maratik on the 2nd round. And I figure you have been already swamped by Mary's fairy dust. TAKE FULL ADVATAGE OF IT!!

What a sensible analysis of Marat's game and the difference between him and other players. Well said 'JustSafin'. What a boring world it would be if all players were the same.
It's great when he wins - but let's not go overboard with criticism when he doesn't. Just love and support him whatever.
Good luck against Benneteau Marat and in the doubles.

this is driving me crazy: what do you guys mean when you always say he used to tank matches? Dina, I didn't say he "used to " tank matches. He was fined for tanking a match before US Open 2000, even though he said he did not. He mentioned that in David Latterman's interview after he won. He was also "accused of" tanking the match against Tursunov in Cincy 2008 by some people. About that match, I already wrote what I thought in the fan report. Hope it clarifies any confusion I have caused you.
