(...)frenjse said in matches disscusion thread that the commentors called him a clown, and a drama queen in the second set....why?? what did he do???(...) What's with those commentators? It's not the first time that I hear that the commentators treat Marat with unpleasant words. That's just wrong! Thankfully the ones that I hear are really cool with Marat, they like him and talk about his game instead of stupid things that don't really matter. "DO YOUR JOB, PEOPLE! DO IT WELL!" Ok, some results so far: Davydenko bt. Youzhny 7-6/ 6-3 Stepanek bt. Haas 6-3/ 2-6/ 6-2 Djokovic bt. Nalbandian 6-2/ 6-3 Federer bt. Fognini 6-1/ 6-1

It’s sad Marat lost, but I didn’t expect him to win this match. The 6-0 in the second set was still a little bit surprised for me. Marat needs to play better, because he has many points to defend at the US open.
Thanks for the pictures and interviews. I have had a busy week. So it’s very nice to come back here and see the pictures and interviews. ;D

It’s sad Marat lost, but I didn’t expect him to win this match. Bugger it, I did! Ever the optimist. I can see the confidence coming back ... at last. ;D Just watched the match - they showed it this afternoon on Eurosport. For once the SKY planner didn't cut out on me. The Big Yin started off the first set tentatively and was 4-2 down but broke back to go 5-4 up by playing more aggressively and good God, confidently! He was attacking Nadal's serve and counterpunching - and it paid off handsomely. The only jitters he got was when he approached the net to finish off a point and lost a bit of confidence (Big Yin, how many times to I need to tell you to keep practising this - and forget that you're at the net! Listen to Cybercoach! ) The Big Yin was the better player and dictated the first set from 4-2 down. He was really unlucky on some of the balls and missed the line by less than an inch several times. A bit more patience and letting Rafa play one more shot wouldn't have gone amiss. Big Yin went 5-4 up and at 6-5 could've taken the set as well. It went to the tiebreak and he really was unlucky here and missed a couple of shots. At 4-4, patience would have been a virtue here Big Yin. The shot was set up and an easy volley went in to the net. Rafa probably couldn't believe his luck. He was certainly rattled by the Big Yin's play. The first set should've been the Big Yin's. It was SO close you could taste it. Second set scoreline is, I think, pretty deceptive. Yes, Big Yin you no doubt want to forget it, but you shouldn't. Quite a few of the games were very close and again, it was unforced errors that skewed the scoreline against you. 51 in total over the match I think! Think what the score would have been if they were under control. There was no racquet throwing or shoulder droops in the first set ... guess what materialised in the second? First set, you fought and played aggressively and didn't mump. Second set you started mumping and throwing the racquet. Lesson: keep playing and thinking as in the first set. You had him Big Yin, you had him - and I bet it surprised you. Don't miss the opportunity again. You proved that you've still got it - get working on the volley and the footwork and it'll all come flooding back. Chin (and shoulders) up Big Yin/Bird/Rab. You ARE getting there. ;D Why didn't you wear your Big Bird outfit? ;D Roll on Cincy. When does the draw get published?

Rafa's comments on Marat ....
Q. How was it to play Marat for the first time? RAFAEL NADAL: Yeah, was tough, no? I start playing very well in the beginning and, yeah, I have some mistakes, and he start to play more aggressive. So, yes, is special feeling, no? Marat is, well, very aggressive play. He can do always everything. And, well, you are all the match with tension, no, because if he's playing good, is impossible, no?
Q. How comfortable are you playing in Montréal? RAFAEL NADAL: ... Today is difficult play very good because Marat is touching the ball with unbelievable power every time, no? But I am there, I fight. ....
Q. How many players have you played who hit the ball as hard as Marat does? RAFAEL NADAL: Well, today a lot of players hit the ball very hard, no? But like Marat, not much.
Q. What are you thinking when Marat throws his racquet? RAFAEL NADAL: Nothing.
Q. Happy? RAFAEL NADAL: Happy, me?
Q. He's getting frustrated. RAFAEL NADAL: No feelings, no.
Q. Doesn't bother you? RAFAEL NADAL: No.

Reading his post interview after the Nadal match, and the wimbly interview after Federer. He sounded actually more confident speaking in the Federer interview :oNot relating to the player per see, but to his win-loss chance to be precise. But what is really good about this interview is that he went for an analytical approach. Not a lot of mention to his confidence syndrom which IMO is irrelevant. So hopefully he will kick ass in Cincinnati

misc Montreal stuff ....
on the doubles front: Fed & Allegro came thisclose to beating the Bryans (Bob and Mike prevailed 10-7 in the match TB) -- would have been fun to see #1 singles guy playing the #1 doubles team .... and not surpising, Rafa & Lleyton pulled out of doubles after they both had long 3-setters yesterday -- maybe they'll play with each other again in the future, would be fun to see ;D
little piece from Frank Dancevic's post-match interview yesterday, but it just too funny, had to share: Q. Speaking of your family, I called your grandmother last week. FRANK DANCEVIC: You did? Phone book?
Q. Yes. She gave me a half-hour long lecture of the pronunciation of your last name. FRANK DANCEVIC: How do you say it?
Q. She says not Dance-vik. FRANK DANCEVIC: It's Dan-che-vich.
Q. I'm wondering what she told you before you came here. FRANK DANCEVIC: My grandmother?
Q. Yes. FRANK DANCEVIC: She gave me a big hug and a kiss and said, Good luck, honey.
Q. Like she did every time? FRANK DANCEVIC: Every time. And she made me good cookies, homemade cookies.
;D ... can't believe they called his grandma, hehehe

No, no, no, no, no! I can't bear to think of Hewitt beating Maestro. It's been a long week at work, don't make it longer.
Go Maestro, go. ;D
Not that I think he'll get beat anyway ...

i didn't wanna comment before because i wanted to know what he thought first, so thanks to Annie for posting the PMI...if he's positive, then i'm positive...after all, it only always depends on him. the problem IS his confidence and we've heard him say that many times. if that improves (and by the way he talks, looks like it is improving) he's coming through, he'll be better, he'll feel better....and WE'LL feel better. SO, good luck for the coming tournaments! let's all be happy and cheer for our guy!! Re: Rafa's interview. It was not only a testament of how much he respects Marat. it is most especially a testament of what kind of man Rafa is, and I applaud and admire that. Makes the people who raised you proud with what kind of man they brought you out to be. (unlike THAT other spanish guy we know...huh, guys? ...) Re: Commentators lashing out on Marat. Where's the love? and where is all this coming from guys? real professionals don't do that...maybe in the celebrity industry where they want to raise interest by being controversial...BUT NOT IN SPORT. OR Maybe, they're just jealous...maybe their wives likes Mr. Safin a lot and they're insecure? LMAO...
