Marat lost, 4-6, 7-6, 6-7.... It's too cruel, he was so close to win ! He served for the match at 6-5 in the third but his serve let him down a bit and Nalby attacked really good and in the TB he was down 0-3 really soon and never find the way back...
This match was a bit weird because at 6-4, 5-3 for Nalby it was not even a match, Marat was in a complete day without, with a so high numbers of unforced errors mostly on the forehand (i stopped to go seeing the count at 30...) that it was really easy for Nalbandian... Marat was getting upset about his game, about the umpire, even took a warning after throwing a ball with rage in the crown...
But then he starts to play amazing, returning great, making winners and really fighting on each point... Third set was close, he was looking a bit tired, more than Nalby but the serve was great. He made an amazing game at 5-5 to take Nalby's serve but hasn't been able to finish the match... He was so close.... Really at 5-3 second set i was like "okay Marat, that was not your day, nothing much to say or to regret because you obviously can't put a forehand in today. Have a rest and better luck in Lyon"; but suddenly he came back and with him the hope, but unfortunately he lost.... Sad because he gave everything he had, but in the TB he was kind of depressed, having serving for the match... And Nalby played great that TB, attacking every ball and taking his chance...

It's a gutting lost- had a great couple of weeks and once again has pushed a top 5 player to the limit. IMO he shot himself in the foot when he was serving for the match - self-destructed but overall a great week and is now within reaching distance of a top 30 ranking
Also good for Lyon - he wont be too tired and can get some rest before another big week
DAVAI MARAT this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep it up!

Would, could, should... doesn't help anybody, BUT if he had challenged the wrong line call and gotten to 40:30, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have tanked the match. So, sure, it's great the made it to the Quarter finals (seriously, that part is amazing) but a lot more was possible. Sorry lena, no watching together tomorrow I wish all of you a wonderful weekend!

he couldn't challenge the line call, he had alreayd used them up. 75 (!!) unforced errors. wow.. with that kind of brain freeze for most of the match it is really no wonder nalbanian won, though marat was so close at the end.
plus, it is only good for him having continued on with good form, getting his ranking up when so many seeds have bummed out - on to bercy! but i would have loved to be federer or ginepri watching the match, whoever nalbandian plays would have been happy with either opponent as they were both below average. nalbandian couldn't buy a first serve for most of the match...

Now that I think about it, remember when he served that ace on 15-15 to become 30-15? And then after he won the replay point, the umpire said 30-15 again? I was thinking, it should be match point for Safin.

i can see how disappointed marat must have been!!!
he was leading and serving for the match...somehow the chances slipped away
he was so close to the semis, so so so close
but I was glad to see he was fighting through out the match....
well done Marat, very sad but still proud of you!!!!!
Keep it up and give your best in the next tournaments!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get the Bercy trophy!!!!!!!

Nope that is nalby who won the replay and it was double fault marat and then passing shot out so BP and then 6-6, but i was so sure that this passing was in...

Obviously the first thing I want to say, is that Marat played some amazing tennis in this tournament. Today in the beginning, things were not looking good. But he fought with so much courage and so much heart. He got back into things when Nalby was serving for the match. So well done to him for all of that. Having said that, when he was serving for it. Match point in his favor, the ball was called out. The ball was SO IN that it is bloody ridiculous, someone anyone should have been able to see that. Never mind that Marat had wasted his challenges, Romano or hell even Nalbandian could have said something. But no, they decided to steal the match. Fine. You can say if Marat had played differently at different times then the result might have been different. Whatever, I am pleased for Marat and the way he is playing. Everyone else, starting with Romano and the video machine can bugger off. Marat did everything he could do, played the best tennis he could today and I will never ask for more than that.

It's just like Marat says... "Don't get too excited when I am winning, and don't get too depressed when I am losing. Just, you know, keep it cool." So, let's just keep it cool, it was a good week for him (not perfect, but not awful neither). Let's think positive, he's going up on the Rankings, which is wonderfull. He's getting closer to be a top seed on AO 2007. DAVAI MARAT
